Hi,

So this is the current situation : Non patched switch, OFW 8.1, clean. I play everyday online and I want to continue to do so.

I am thinking about installing Emunand with Hekate today, use it offline and keep my sysnand clean.

I have two questions :

1- Do I have to re-clean my sysnand after installing emunand ? I mean, does the whole RCM-HEKATE-Emunand creation process leaves any trace on my console, or can I just boot to my sysnand and play online instantly ?

2- If a new firmware comes out tomorrow (9.0) and kill cfw n everything for some time, does it also block my emunand ? Like, let's say I update my sysnand to 9.0, but i keep my Emunand 8.1. Can I still boot to Emunand via RCM, or do I have to wait for Hekate to be functionnal with 9.0 in order to do so?

Thanks.

Hi.
Usually sysNAND and emuNAND are separate system, hence them running off the SD card but, to be safe than sorry i would suggest you to factory reset either of them so you can unlink them. As per the safety and purity of your sysNAND..I would advise you to make a NAND backup before proceeding with the hacking process just to be sure. On a side note, do not boot any CFW/run any homebrew in sysNAND and it shouldn't leave any traces of hackery and hopefully ut should ever keep your sysNAND viable for online play and ban free. Number of fuses is not known yet to cause a ban (as of now) so you can update without burning fuses.
about updating. Do not update your FWs unless proven safe to do so by the community here.

What’s the sense of unlinking them?

Thank you very much for your answer.

I plan to make a backup of my current clean nand before doing anything, it goes without saying.

So once i'm done, i should factory reset my emunand, just as an extra precaution, to unlink it from my sysnand.

And then, i should not update my sysnand until hekate, atmosphere & co are confirmed working on the new firmware. Meaning, i'm going to have to take a break from online everytime a new firmware comes out. Annoying, but better than buying another switch for online.

So that they can be totally cut off from one another and emuNAND won't have any traces of the sysNAND, avoiding trouble in case it goes online by accident. Nonetheless 90DNS should be kept enabled on emuNAND as well.

uh, even after factory reset the infos that are used to ban a switch will stay the same so if you get banned on emunand you will still get banned on sysnand too...

correct me if im wrong but im 95% sure you can update your sysnand, the compatibility problem come with a nand launching itself patched by cfw
exemple:
- 9.0 come out, hack arent updated
- you update sysnand, sysnand on 9.0 work, emunand cfw on 8.1 work
- you update emunand, emunand cfw on 9.0 wont work until hacks are updated

This is the way i see it too. I mean before NoNAND answered me.

I never unlinked my SysNAND from EmuNAND. But I don't use SysNAND online. Never heard that this leaves traces on SysNAND...

But put it this way. When you create an emuNAND playtime activity and other "residual" things from sysNAND will get carried over to emuNAND, so why not factory reset emuNAND and have a fresh and clean system environment. (that said you could still back up your saves)
What if someone with an unbanned sysNAND happens to go online in their emuNAND it'll likely ban their console.

I don't have a linked Nintendo account, either in SysNAND nor in EmuNAND. Also both NANDs use a different Nintendo folder.

I wish i could get a second answer just to be sure.

Does anyone know, if the following situation would be true :

- OFW 9.0 come out, hacks arent updated
- you update sysnand, sysnand on 9.0 work, emunand cfw on 8.1 work
- you update emunand, emunand cfw on 9.0 wont work until hacks are updated

Or if, as NoNAND said, i should not update my sysnand before hacks are up to date, otherwise i won't be able to boot to my 8.1 Emunand.

if firmware 9.0 is coming out im waiting for any potential bans in case nintendo added some stability to it. could never be to sure.
