Hacking New NAND backup every Firmware Update?

If I dump a clean NAND, then play my backup games, then later decide to go online and restore my clean NAND, then later on a new firmware version decide to go back to playing backup games, do I have to make a new NAND backup on that firmware version in case I want to go online again in the future, or can I use the older NAND backup again?

I know there's the EmuMMC option but I don't use that atm.

You could use your old Backup every time, but since you have to be on the latest FW to Go online, I would take the time and do a new Backup.

The Thing is, that updating online burns fuses, which prevents booting old FW without a Bootloader e. g. Hekate

and use the offline method to update to avoid burn fuses or else your old backup could still be used but u need a payload to boot it.

I clean my nand after an update and then take a backup and atm i m not online member but i do go on e shop to buy and backup games and nothing happen but that might change if i i have a switch online membership as i don't wanna push my luck and i haven't had a reason for it yet

EDIT. or now you could setup emunand for homebrew stuff and sysnand for online

I'm on 8.0.1 atm, that's also the firmware version I made the nand backup on. But I want to play online for a bit, so I have to update to 8.1.

I have no problem making a new nand back up every time. But do I really need to update offline? Can't I just use Nin's servers to update? I have no plans on going back to 8.0.1 after I've updated the firmware.

its good to do so in case you update without thinking about cfw compatibility or when a better warm or cold boot is available

The only thing stopping me from using emunand atm, is that I use my phone to connect the sd card to the pc to transfer stuff, and I don't think I can access the hidden partition on the sdcard from my PC when it's connected through my phone. I haven't tested it out yet though, just assuming.

OP is correct on first post. If you restore your original clean backup and then go online your logs wont match and you'll be banned. Take a new clean backup each time before you go back to CFW.

no you delete certain files from system partition and all user partition reset everything back to clean

I think there is a better guide, for this "hard initialize" as some refer to it. A lot of people will not recommend you do this though as it's easy to brick your switch if you don't wrong.

dunno, maybe people don’t know about it. But the system initialize option in choinx does destroy all system savegames (except for 8...120 or whatever it was)

Ok, first things first:

I used to have a nand backup for my 4.1.0 days, the cleanest of the cleanest nand, welp, cant seem to find it on my drives so, lets assume its gone forever.

Currently, I;m on 7.0.1, but got only 5 burnt fuses, which tells me i can go back to 4.0.0 if i desire.

However, the plan of this is to go to 4.0.0 with a CLEAN nand, so im assuming that the steps would be:

1. Make a Nand BackUp
2. Downgrade to 4.0.0 using ChoiDuJourNX
3. System will probably not boot since the saves are going to be incompatible so, mount the partitions and delete SaveMetaData and everything on Save except for the 800000000120.
4. Then probably perform the last step from https://guide.sdsetup.com/usingcfw/manualchoiupgrade ? which would be

in "save" delete all except 8000000000000120
in saveMeta delete all except 8000000000000120
if anything in Contents/placehld, delete all in placehld also.

in User partition
delete everything

delete sd folder

Done.
