I accidentally deleted my 6.2.0 backup, so I need to use my 5.1.0 backup again.
My question is if there has been any ban when it comes to updating from the same firmware twice? I officially updated to 6.2.0 from 5.1.0 months ago, now I need to update from 5.1.0 again to 8.1.0 this time, or should I use ChoiDujourNX & update to 6.2.0 & then update officially to 8.1.0?

Never update with official update if your NAND isn't clean. Always use ChoiDujourNX.

Updating via ChoiDujourNX requires CFW. The moment CFW boots on the device, it modifies the nand and sends info to nintendo that can/will result in a ban. So updating from ChoiDujourNX if you care about not being banned is not possible.

Updating from the same OFW twice should be impossible, but as long as the switch never reported that it had completed the update and no record exists of it on a newer firmware that it should not be an issue. So.... has WiFi, without 90DNS, ever been enabled since the 5.1.0 backup? If so, I have bad news...

A lot of people report that running CFW, without installing NSPs, has not resulted in them being banned yet. For you, since both ways are probably error prone, maybe just get it over with and update to OFW 8.1 using ChoiDujourNX?

That’s the thing, my backups are clean, but I already officially updated from 5.1.0 before. I either update officially from the same firmware twice or do it though ChoiDujourNX with CFW. I only found one other user that updated officially from firmware he shouldn’t be on due to his incorrect fuse counts, & he’s not banned.

Even if the NAND backup is clean, if CFW was on the switch and WiFi is enabled, the console has already been flagged.

There is not really a recommended option to update once that happens so you are going to be a guinea pig either way.

So you officially updated when you haven’t run CFW?

Technically, yes. I set up 90DNS & then I backup 5.1.0 before I ran CFW, then restored it when I needed to update to 6.2.0.
Okay. In future always use ChoiDujourNX to update because you don’t have to restore your clean NAND and you don’t have to be online.

I'm on a similar Doubt:

I've never used a nintendo account, either used any online features (auto-ban). My console is on 8.0.1 since I Bought it. If i need to update to 8.1.0+ (maybe for super mario maker 2 or any other games to come), is there any problems to use official way to do system update?

My doubt is:
-What's a Ban? Nintendo Bans the console from being online ever again, or bans signed in accounts (like said, I have none). ?

I dont like autoRCM. If I ever plan to go online in the future (I do have clean nand BKP, just in case), It's mandatory to use choidujourNX and autormc to do this update? It will "install" newer firmware only while the console is turned on, if turned completely off, i must update again, is that right?

There is no reason to update with official system update. If you don’t install autoRCM, which ChoiDujourNX does by default, your switch will burn fuses and your backup is useless if you don’t want to always use a custom boot loader to boot. ChoiDujorNX updates your console to for example 8.1.0 if you have the firmware files on your micro sd. Also if you console is powered off and turned on again, your still on the updated firmware with ChoiDujourNX. I recommend you to read more in the switch hacking scene because it seems you misunderstand many basic concepts.

Thanks for put me in the right line of tought. Well, don't get me wrong: I'm reading a lot, but is so many things, and since I'm a new switch owner, the timeline of hacks, updates, firmwares, homebrews can be a bit confusing.
sorry for my incovenience.

No, the console has not been "flagged". You guys act like Nintendo is an omniscient, angry deity, constantly on the lookout for any sins or thought-crimes you might commit. In reality, people running CFW are an extremely tiny sliver of what occupies their mind. You need to understand that when people make recommendations on how to avoid bans, they are talking about what Nintendo could theoretically see and do. They are not all-knowing. They are not all-powerful.

They have the logs uploaded from the console. If at any point they decide to query their own database looking for specific anomolies of what should and should not be possible, sooner or later a console with CFW will turn up. Even something as mundane as clearing logs leads to a ban.

Whether or not it is actively flagged or not, they have all the information they need to ban the console already, which is the entire point of what the OP is trying to avoid.
