Homebrew 3ds video player, why is it so hard?

I can pop down to the local phone shop and pay literally £10 for a simfree (If not just pay another £10 for pay as you go ) phone which is perfectly capable of watching videos. (Running Android 4.4: http://www.gsmarena.com/alcatel_pixi_3_(4)-6933.php )

While that's fine and dandy, if you happen to live in an area where phones that cheap are a thing, there's a lot of places where that's certainly not the case. Either way, lugging around another device isn't really a good solution when we already have a device that (at least in theory) should be able to play some of the more simplistic media formats (think mpeg, or maybe xvid, if scaled down to proper resolutions).

Well if someone wants to do it, be my guest. I just don't see a reason why you'd want to as smartphones are very common and a lot easier to use for videos. Also even if someone makes a 3DS video player, it won't look as good as on a smartphone.

3 years later... no ones replied. There is a 3ds moflex player. Go search for it. Other than that. Who the heck cares at this point. A phone is something easier to get ahold of. Hell, even a phone without a sub on it still works as a downloaded movie player.

If you really really care, convert them to 3ds Camera format and slum it with that.
I used this method years ago as a child to watch anime on my 3ds so I can confirm it works, it's just not the prettiest solution.

(for what it's worth, that format is .moflex, and although there's been some progress, there's still no way to convert video TO this format yet to the best of my knowledge).

The moflex SDK leaked a long time ago, and people make 3D movie conversions on ISO sites.

There's the Rocket Video Player, but this runs in DS/DSi mode, so you're limited to 2D videos at 256x192, or with a lower vertical resolution.

get a nokia n95 and stream youtube from it (even though it sometimes goes out of sync)

Oh yeah, forgot the 3DS supports 3D. The 10min limit I could deal with but the 20fps limit makes videos look too choppy to me.

It's probably the best selling 3D display ever, i bet more people own a 3DS than a 3D tv. If anyone made a video player it'd be awesome for 3D movie watching shenanigans. There's always VR too, but i'd rather not watch a movie during 2 hours with a headset on my face.

3d movies on a vr headset are incredible cause the 3d is HUGE and in your face, that said 3d movies on 3ds also kicks ass

nevermind i found it. Too bad moflex is not an easy format to convert to. I'll dig a little deeper. It seems doable at least.

wow. Talk about a necro-bump. People were making videos play through the built-in stuff within a month or two after 3ds coming out. My o3ds has the smurf movie on it (broken into a couple of parts because of a file size requirement) and some 3d porn. So while there might not be a player for .avi and such, it was known VERY early on how to get video into a format the 3ds already expects. both 2d and 3d.
