runs fullspeed, i don't even think you need n3ds for them.

at the very least, the dungeon and dragons beat em ups and marvel vs capcom/darkstalker games do.

i think there's an xmen one i never got to run though. but it's probably a bad dump or something.

Try booting into Luma config (hold select while powering up.)
Which Luma version shows (should be 9.1), and also which options are checked? New 3DS CPU should be on Clock+L2 and nothing should be checked in the lower part besides game patching and show NAND, unless you have a good reason to.

that's how it is set for both sdcard and ctrnand luma installation.

i mean, emulation on vita isn't all that peachy either, as the demanding emulators like gba are apparently not optimized to make use of the vitas cores right. so even at max overclock, gba emulation also stutters in some games. and it does drain the battery quite a bit.
but you get the vita library and psp and psx in return.

the biggest plus for 3ds in my eyes isn't the emulators or compability, but the clamshell design. you can put that in a bag no problem. for the vita or switch, nothing but a hard case will do (soft cases for switch are torture for the joycon sticks) and those do take up space.

ultimately, you'll probably wanna be alternating if you have both anyways.

Vita has a much nicer screen, especially if comparing to a TN 3DS. That, "native" PSX support, UAE4ARM, and a stable gPSP dynarec under Adrenaline are the only real advantages I know of. N3DS main CPU cores are double the speed, its not like Vita really has any more power there.

If you go with the 3ds I would recommend trying some of the non RetroArch emulators too. Like "Snes9x for Old 3DS" is way faster then even Snes9x 2002 and it's based on version 1.43! On the new 3DS even some of the super fx games (like Yoshi's Island) run full speed. Stunt Race FX technically lags but it's actually running faster than it does on a real snes.

Yeah I actually have tried most of my usual go-to retro consoles on each but still have problems to decide.
Luckily the SNES games I'm interested in playing run at 59.9fps on RA in Vita but sometimes I just want to have the full SNES library running at that and the 3DS does that.
I love both portables but hate having to jump between then to emulate different stuff.
It's a "shame" that Vita has to use Adrenaline with PSP emulators for CPS1, 2 and GBA.
It's good to know CPS1 and 2 run at full in a N3DS, the extra shoulder buttons come real handy.

ultimately, you'll probably wanna be alternating if you have both anyways.

It's precisely what I don't want to do but yeah, I end up doing it anyway whenever I feel the Vita isn't emulating something right.

I'm not sure that this is correct. The Vita is a newer architecture (ARMv7a vs. N/3DS's ARMv6a) so it has some advantages, but the New 3DS (804MHz) runs at 1.8-2.4* the clock speed of the Vita (333-444MHz). It's older hardware but clocked significantly faster. Clock speed isn't everything, of course, but it's not nothing, either. Before anybody gets mad, the Vita is significantly more advanced than either the old or New 3DS in many other respects, but purely on the measure of CPUs, I think the N3DS wins.

Well the latest nightly is crashing again (already). I get it's a nightly... But they just fixed it like a week ago. It happens when you select load core.

Are you comparing like for like, i.e. the same emulator running on both platforms? If not, then different emulators are basically impossible to use to compare CPUs. If you're talking about the same emulator running on both, then this statement is misleading at best. Some emulators are definitely slower on Vita than on New 3DS. If others are faster (examples?), there could be any number of reasons for improved performance beyond "the CPU is more powerful". They could be leveraging the more powerful Vita GPU, New 3DS could be limited by memory constraints, Vita could have faster libraries, etc.

There might be better emulators on Vita than New 3DS, all I'm saying is it's not because of the CPU.

Are you again experiencing crashes while loading cores?

The latest (20-05) is working fine on my end. Haven't tested 19-05 tho..

Just extract the "Retroarch" folder in the download to your SD cards root and install the main Retroarch CIA. It should install them on its own.

Thank you, I got it! But now, whenever I try to boot the PCSX app, it crashes (I can't post the crash dump here because I'm a new member). Am I missing something? Maybe it's because I haven't put the bios file there yet, where do I put it?

It should go inside /retroarch/core/system.

I'm on a 2DS XL using the newest Luma and all that. Basically, I just followed the 3ds.hacks.guide

I've tried both the cia and 3dsx versions with both behaving the same way. They load the main Retroarch app the first time, but as soon as I try to load a core, they start loading it, but eventually fail with a "No profiles found" error. This persistis when I try to boot it again because it's still trying to load the core. It resolves when I delete the .cfg file, but comes back as soon as I load another core,

In both cases, I've had the proper "retroarch" folder on the root of my SD card,
