Hello, everybody.

I was looking for some neat controllers for Switch, and found this cool lookin' one. (Some of you may already know about it)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GX...olid=2MWB22TZB8IMD&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The 8BitDo SF30 Pro, a Switch controller with the looks of a SNES controller. Honestly, I think the idea is really cool, and I'd certainly love to order one, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $40 they're asking. The main things I play on Switch are Splatoon 2, Smash Ultimate, and Death Road to Canada, so good analog sticks are really important to me. Do any of you have any experience with this? If so, let me know.

I have both that and the non-Pro version and I love them both and think they're worth the asking price because they're really high build quality and have lots of features (they work with lots of different devices with various modes). I'd highly recommend either, although I prefer the non-Pro version because I find it odd to have analogue sticks on a SNES pad and it also throws the position of the other buttons off slightly. For games like Splatoon 2 and Smash Pros I'd say just get a Pro controller, or even a GameCube controller. Also you should be able to find it cheaper than $40 somewhere - I only paid £20 for my Pro.

I actually reviewed it a while back if you want to give it a read: https://gbatemp.net/review/8bitdo-sn30-pro.703/
All in all, it's definitely worth the price. I'm still using it with no issues at all.

Well, that review's most certainly sold me. With my birthday only a few weeks away, I'm most certainly going to take the plunge and pick one up :D

I'll do a bit of looking before I pull the trigger, then-- thanks for the heads-up.

WAIT OVER THERE!!! Now ill tell you if it is and if it is not worth it:

It is WORTH it IF: You don’t have decent controllers (switch pro, third parties like powera, pdp, hori)

It is NOT worth it IF: You have playstation, xbox, wii u pro, or even third parties like logitech, etc. this is not an official nintendo product so i cant guarantee you that it will last you long because i dont even have it. but what i can guarantee you is that if you buy the 8BitDo USB Wireless Adapter or the Mayflash Magic-NS you will spend half the money with these adapters. (i recommend the mayflash version because it has wired options, and overall more gamepad compatibility and no lag. the 8bitdo one has tons of lag and less compatibility).

OR: if you dont care about all of this stuff then you must see this: i couldnt get an image about the specific controller you want but this will make you think more your buy. 8bitdo is planning to add grips to these controllers. if i was you, i wanna be me too  just kidding no seriously i would wait for comfort:

Exactly what I did. I took a chance that this would work my arcade stick. It totally worked!
I almost bought the sn30 pro, but I had all those other controllers.

I do have a few Xbox One controllers, and I saw those adapters before. They looked really nifty to me, and I was thinking about picking one up, but I was also looking for something a little bit weird and new, so I thought I'd give this weird controller a try. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some serious flaws with it (like crappy joysticks, bad connectivity, ect.), and I'd rather hear somebody say so, or read a review here (like Scarlet's) than read a review on the Amazon page.

The controllers with the grips are probably gonna be more comfortable, but I'm still excited enough about the idea of this one that I'm still gonna try it out.

lets revise: what happened with some xbox 360s? they got red rings of death! what happened to some ps3s? they didnt turn on unless you used a hair dryer! What is happening to ps4s? they get error codes that prevent you from playing games! what happens to pcs? they get viruses! now with durability sony, microsoft and nintendo make quality controllers and other stuff but even third parties licensed by the same companies (hori, pdp, powera) make bad quality accessories. and ive played nintendo all of my life from the gamecube to the switch and i havent had any issues with controllers, hardware, etc

Conveniently overlooking Switches bending due to heat, the switch dock scratching the screen, the joycons losing connection and drifting the DS Lite hinges breaking

The psx had a bad quality disk drive. The original Xbox controllers weren’t “compatible” with kids. The bending can be prevented by using the switch less or adding a cooling system. And not to mention that the PSN got hacked. And a PSvita update bricked tons of systems.

I know, I'm not defending the flaws in other systems. But that doesn't mean you should just skip over the Nintendo one's because you find them inconvenient to your point.

As for using the switch less or using a cooling system, that doesn't diminish the flaw. You shouldn't have to take those kind of measures to use it.

Back on topic, I have the SF30 non pro version and love it. I did have a pro but I had to return it. The d-pad was so clicky it was annoying over game audio while playing with headphones. However that isn't a common complaint about them, so I am fairly sure I just had a faulty one.

I also recently picked up a M30, which is the newer pad that has a Mega Drive/Genesis button layout and that is my new favourite of the retro pads.

I've been thinking about picking up the M30. I assume it's the same great quality as the other models I have.

I can't fault it. I'd say if anything the build quality is better than the SF30, although there is not much in it. The D-pad is the best I've seen on any of these retro focused pads. Also thanks to the change to USB-C it can charge faster too. However given the drastically different button layout I wouldn't really want to use it for any SNES games, etc. It just feels wrong, the same way trying to play Mega Drive games with the SF30 did.
