not that different
(in reference to installing XCIs vs mounting XCIs).

I respectfully beg to differ. There is a *huge* convenience factor in being able to just mount XCIs.

I have an mSD card full of installed XCIs. They work fine under SX-OS. They do not work under sigpatched Atmosphere.

The only solution to this at this time is uninstalling the XCIs and then reinstalling them with a different installer. Very time consuming.
I'm happy enough to put this time in now, as I see advantages in having installed XCIs which work under both SX-OS and sigpatched Atmosphere going forwards in the current very uncertain scene environment.

I would go over all the reasons why some people dislike SX OS, but I've been told that it's socially inappropriate to speak ill of the dead, particularly so soon.

There is another thread for theory crafting, isnt it? Given the question asked, this is quite offtopic

maybe you don't realize the latest news about the tx site? (sry if u do) the joke is that not being able to activate your license or whatever cause the site is down is a bummer, but its totally believable to most around here that they would pack up in the night and render their products trash without concern if it becomes unprofitable.
sure seems to apply to the topic to me.

They screwed me very long ago on an xbox chip. They just take and give nothing back to the community, which is built on synergy/freedom of knowledge, they leech from that.

LOL fyi top poll result in thread about the tx site is "*Standard TX hate comment*"by a very wide margin

So in a way, homebrewers are like Robin Hood? They steal from the rich and give to the poor?
Also @toxic9, I don't think there's any way to obtain solid proof.
@g4jek8j54, I did not realize they were once malware! On the switch or in the past?
Nevermind. I just read your blog post on the malware. Very shady and sneaky indeed.

I read the whole frikin thread, since post 1, yet, still not hard evidence of anything. So until there is proof or enough time without a site, this is pure speculation and theory crafting.

That being said, the rest of your answer is exactly what I was looking for, so thank you for that

glad i could help somewhat i guess, if you are asking cause you are considering a product i must say check atmosphere-NS dongle, its real cheap and works well you do not *need* anything they are selling, but if ease of use piracy is everything to you then go for it i guess.

That would be true, if Robin Hood gave us EmuNAND, XCI loading, USB loading, etc.

People here make it sound like theres some kind of holy war going on between two factions. But the fact is that neither of them are actually competing with each other. If they were, someone else would've made a free XCI loader and EmuNAND by now. I don't think devs actually care about any of this. Its just the people here who seem to like to argue about this petty stuff.

They take open source projects and actually improve on them.
Can't really blame them for not wanting to open source their improvements since it's what's making them money. You are still free to blame them for not following the license.

It doesn't matter if they're making money or not. Don't wanna comply to the license? Don't use it, it's that simple. I work for an IT company, if I found a really good library but it's copyleft then I refuse to use it. I just can't say things like "Hey, I'm making money, so this license doesn't affect me hahaha".

But try to see it from their perspective, if they had to open source their changes they would have never made SX OS to begin with because there'd be no money in it.
So no one is worse off by it existing, those that are willing to pay a little for the extra features (if they want them) are better off, and for everyone else it's the same as if it didn't exist.

I think the developers of Atmosphere are of different opinion. If SXOS weren't to exist Atmosphere would get more awareness and development would potentionally faster. Additionally, developing software that even more people use would make a developer happier.

Because everyone using free CFW is only using it for emulators, and only emulating old games which they already own original copies of. They would never pirate anything and this gives them the moral high ground.

Not everyone has good ability to code or at the level of coding to actually improve the available open sources. Free CFW or paid CFW users to come here for exactly the same purpose >>> sigpatches to installed unsigned things warez. The sad fact is that if Atmosphere doesn't have "sweet patches", who even cares that much?

I mean sigpatches won't ever come to Atmosphere / Homebrew only / Userland only.
Right, they won't ever be officially packaged with Atmosphere.
But Atmosphere supports them if the user provides them.
Folks that don't mind downloading/extracting them will care.

I don't care about the Atmosphere devs, they've done some rather questionable things themselves. I'm talking from a user perspective.

They use code from open-source projects, without following the licensing conditions/crediting its original authors, effectively stealing the code.
They have done extremely shady things, including starting a paid piracy subscription service.
There's a lot more shady stuff they have done, but I don't have the patience to get into that.
again only hate!
you cant know if they steal the code and if they steal code why does you Atmosphere/ReiNX idiot no EmuNAND?
Piracy:
XCI:
can be used on ReiNX, Atmosphere, SX OS
NSP:
can be used on ReiNX, Atmosphere, SX OS
and what more?
