SX OS 2.6 Beta released: full support for Nintendo Switch firmware 7.x

From Team Xecuter:

This new 2.6 BETA of SX OS adds full support for Nintendo Switch firmware 7.x, including ALL functionality you expect when using our product. We've been pioneering our own unique and proprietary solution for defeating any future firmware protection and we're quite happy with the results so far.

This release is marked as BETA because we changed things drastically under the hood to streamline future firmware updates and some things may inadvertently behave differently.

That does not mean it hasn't been vetted at all, so give it a shot today!

Of course, we haven't been sitting idly behind the scenes either. A lot of our development resources and attention has been dedicated to bringing SX OS to those "unhackable" switches. We are working hard to bring the SX OS experience to all of you who are stuck with an "unhackable" switch. Stay tuned for more news!

Under EU Law, the second you put in the jig and press + and power, it is violating Nintendo's rights. EVERYTHING after that is even more unlawful because you, with full intend, are doing something the rightholder (Nintendo) did you not want to do which is their good right:

http://curia.europa.eu/juris/docume...en&mode=lst&dir=&occ=first&part=1&cid=5347581

‘1. Rightholders of any copyright or of any related right as well as of the right under Article 102bis (3) [concerning databases], may apply to protected works or objects effective technological protection measures, including any technology, device or component that, in the normal course of its operation, is designed to prevent or restrict acts which are not authorised by the rightholders.

2. Technological protection measures shall be deemed effective where the use of the protected work or object is controlled by the rightholders through the application of an access control or protection process, such as encryption, scrambling or other transformation of the work or the protected work, or if that use is limited by a copy control mechanism which achieves the objective of protection.

Only because Nintendo isn't pursing it, whatever cause it might be, does not make it "legal". So please could we stop that unfruitful discussion and concentrate on getting things done and moving forward thanks you very much.
I've looked in to that, in that regard Reinx is illegal but how is atmosphere if it isn't providing a means to let you play copyrighted material ? Atmosphere doesn't have sigpatches so according to that court ruling atmosphere isn't illegal since it doesn't provide any means of playing copyrighted material that isn't yours. The court ruling specifically says that but if it doesn't then what can that court ruling actually do ?

''which are protected by copyright are registered. Those measures have the effect of preventing the use of illegal copies of videogames. Games lacking a code cannot be launched on either of the two types of equipment marketed by the Nintendo undertakings. ''
'' The Nintendo undertakings have observed the existence of PC Box equipment which, once installed on the console, circumvent the protection system present on the hardware and enable illegal use of videogames.

If you even look at the last part wich says ''Consideration of the questions referred''
It is clear the court doesn't approve fully of what Nintendo is claiming

The code in atmosphere which uses the seeds actually generates a key equivalent to the one included in sxos, so if one is a circumvention device then so is the other.

I never said anything to the contrary.

Both of them are circumvention devices. We are on the same page here. Both are also in violation of the DMCA. We agree, and we agree that if CFW, homebrew, or anything of the kind gets taken up in the courts, they would probably be deemed illegal under current law.

That being said, directly embedding the key in the release has gotten people in trouble. No one is particularly eager to join geohot.

The key in sxos wasn't plain text, it was calculated at run time by code (not that this matters as the keys cannot be copyrighted)

Are you sure about this? My understanding of 2.6 was that it directly embedded the key in the release (not that they used it, just that it was a lazy leftover). If this isn't true, and/or if it isn't true of 2.6.1, then I accept your argument that there's no difference between linking to kosmos or reinx (only difference with atmo is the sig patch issue, and that doesn't negate the rest of it).

(Also keep in mind, we're mainly talking about the relative safety of directly linking from GBATemp. If the law was fully enforced here, GBATemp probably wouldn't exist at all).

You can argue it doesn't archive protection because it's broken by design so...

You guys all seem to keep forgetting one important part of all of this, the only person decompressing and sharing the tools for this info publicly is this guy: https://twitter.com/hexkyz

TX does not release anything with any keys in "plain text".

I know you guys don't like to listen to reason, but that's just a fact. I'm glad gbatemp and TX are finally going separate ways because this place is so full of hatred and negativity. It won't take long for someone to slap the reply button on this and start rapping out some hateful banter. Go ahead. I don't care. :)

May I ask what your point is with this?
Regardless of any obfuscation it contained the key (and still contains GC headers), copyrighted property of Nintendo.

No it's still there.
It's just far down enough that the banner isn't displaying.

So sigpatches are actually illegal? I thought that it can be called a coincidence, that they allow you to play warez, as their main purpose is to run installed unauthorized stuff on your console (which is, in fact, warez thanks to fake tickets).

ofcourse sigpatches is illegal but atmosphere doesn't come with them originally so i don't see the problem

That being said, directly embedding the key in the release has gotten people in trouble. No one is particularly eager to join geohot.

They sued Geohotz and fof for DMCA violation and contributory copyright infringement.

Geohotz didn't embed a key, he used the key that shared to sign a CFW.

That seems pretty similar to SciresM being given a key to sign sept.

ofcourse sigpatches is illegal but atmosphere doesn't come with them originally so i don't see the problem

but the sigpatches for atmosphere are hosted on gbatemp & there are links to Kosmos and ReiNX (which from memory are bundled with sigpatches).

You can argue it doesn't archive protection because it's broken by design so...

The law would be pretty pointless if it only protected things that could never be exploited, because they will never be exploited. I think your argument would not be considered reasonable.

I mean even non-warez homebrew is still illegal, as it is bypassing the console's content access controls in order to run unauthorized code. It's just that DMCA enforcement has focused on straight up piracy.

Will this change in the future? I guess we'll see.

That seems pretty similar to SciresM being given a key to sign sept.

The similarity between geohot and sxos is that they directly shared the key. The difference with SciresM is that he didn't.

He is circunventing TX's protection that's all. The key is still in there just encrypted/obfuscated ;)

My point is this all blew up with the "plain text" theory, and it isn't even truth. The key was not in "plain text". Gbatemp has always played a large role in piracy. Hell, when gbatemp started it was for BLATANT piracy where roms would be freely and publicly shared. But that doesn't matter, I just wanted to remind everyone here where the roots are.

TX = Bad and that is just how it is. Right?

If the owner of the keys cared enough to file a lawsuit then it would have happened, or it will happen. That's up to them. They don't care what this community has to say about it.

Which mirrors the scene, most people are using this for piracy.

Yeah, I don't care who people hate or what gets linked or hosted anywhere.

What I find an issue is that people justify it by making stuff up and then people come along and learn it and think it's true.

It's essentially making people dumber for no reason.

I'm truly surprised at the lack of activity from nintendos and sonys lawyers. I think they've given up.

ReSwitched ain't perfect either. They had one massive falling out which caused the Atmosphere project to almost die that day. (Which I'm sure the TX team would be glad of). But consistently stealing code (and denying it) isn't ok. I'm also glad TX and gbatemp are going their separate ways. At least the site won't have to deal with these threads anymore and the misinformation that is being spread by both sides.

So... why should GBATemp want to be anywhere near that possibility?

Which mirrors the scene, most people are using this for piracy.

The fact that this forum was so quick to embrace SXOS despite... well, everything, and the eventual releases of free alternatives kinda prove your point. Even when every feature in SXOS becomes freely available everywhere, I fully expect a vocal contingent of people to remain here to defend it to the death, because warez and post-purchase rationalization.

I get you're probably not apart of the TX dev team. But if you're going to try and call out the person who's been calling the team you've been moderating for years (with actual evidence and a tool to check it for yourself mind you). It looks a bit biased doesn't it?

That's why I see people spreading "EmuNAND" and "USB HDD" to be the best thing that has come out of the scene. When they both inevitably get ported over (which USB HDD is already being actively worked on). Then (apart from XCI which is part obsolete already). They have nothing to justify their purchase. I stopped justifying mine since SX OS 2.0 came out and moved to Atmosphere. Don't regret a single thing.

Not just SXOS, don't forget that atmosphere was really the last to the party. SDFiles was being spread with signature patches before it really started releasing & if you switched to atmosphere then your first stop is to the thread hosted here to add the patches that atmosphere refuse to include because they are illegal.

I don't believe this forum embraces SXOS, it seems to barely tolerate it and wants to wipe it off the face of the earth. It seems to be a personal grudge.

I'm just saying - having and using the keys is one thing. (not defending any legalities, as I am not an attorney and won't pretend to be one)

Leaking those keys to the public is a complete other thing (also illegal to do in some form/fashion), and that seems to be just fine with this community, and is even praised! .... so long as it makes TX look bad. It's all about that TX Hate Train. CHOO CHOO!!!
