Again, he's keeping the exploit private. Releasing the code for the new method won't give away how he got the keys.
Well since 7.0 support seems to be on the horizon, this is just a friendly reminder that backups won't work on 7.0 with Atmosphere unless someone makes a new set of IPS patches. Rajkosto has been making them ever since and because we know he's alive due to biskeydump now supporting firmware 7.0, he may do it again. Or not, its anyone's guess.
It will happen, if one of the usual people doesn't do it straight away then someone else will figure out how to port them. It's not like them not happening at all is a realistic possibility, don't worry.

My thing is they may not be done instantly which some people might be expecting
that shouldn't be an issue, from my understanding layeredFS won't change as it's a static intercept so to speak, whereas the patches for "backups" are dynamic and change with each firmware

Nothing works until it does. So far the IPS patches have always come out before I've read the news that atmosphere is out. There is nothing to indicate this is going to change.
The encryption keys can't be copyrighted, but they are arguably covered by DMCA/EUCD/whatever the equivalent law is called in your country.
Those laws cover any method, including the one they used to derive the key in 6.2.0 or the one that they are going to use for 7.0
It doesn't matter what they do, if their method circumvents a copy protection system then it's illegal.
Atmosphere doesn't include patches that do that, so they may be able to argue their case in court. The homebrew argument didn't work on the DS flashcart court cases, because the cards also supported commercial games out of the box. They were also being sold, so there was a strong legal case for Nintendo.
So the answer "it's illegal" is a red herring. The answer may be that they incorrectly think it's illegal, or maybe they don't want to tell you the real reason. Maybe they just like pretending that they are outwitting the legal system like some robin hood story.

I know of a few scenes where people asking "WHERE IS MY SUPPORT?!?!" over and over again caused the developer to stop developing.

True (although I'd much prefer if Atmosphere stop pumping out these patches if they want to not be associated with piracy) but my statement was more as a general warning that for people who update their Atmosphere and suddenly find their backups not working anymore that there is a good reason why that is occurring. It serves as a reminder such as when firmware 7.0 was on the verge of dropping to not update your firmware.
