Sorry if this has been answered already, possibly a noobish question (to @JK_). Would it be possibile, with this mod, to overclock the X1 to it's original intended frequency as well? Or will it top to 768HZ no matter what? I'm not interested in battery damage, I've already took it into account, as a given. I would like to know if it is just feasible at all. Thanks for your reply.

1ghz GPU is dangerous in multiple ways

I know that already, that is why I wrote that I take damage to the battery as a given. I already know it will damage the battery, I would just wnat to know if it is possibile at all, regardless.
Well, it could probably be done, I'd image it would have issues tho.

It would be dangerous to more things than just the battery.

If you're fully aware of the possible consequences, yes.

This really puts me in a strange position. I'm really torn about leaving them in if I had to be honest. I don't want to stop people from experimenting with their own devices how they want. On the flip side, there are people that will destroy their Switches and come after me with pitch forks.

Can the SOC fry because of that? Because in theory, taking the battery out of the equation (since it can be replaced), reaching that frequency could benefit both docked and undocked performance, as long as we can manage temps one way or another.
EDIT: @JK_ So it tops at 921mhz? Isn't that a bit lower that what stated on wikipedia about the X1? I guess it's because it's a slight different version, isn't it?
EDIT2: My 2 cents. It would be better if you leave the feature there. Just be super careful to inform the end user that it can be dangerous and why frequencies should stay in a safe range. A few lines of (red) text and a security button sequence would be enough, IMHO.

Its probably not bad for the SOC. But it is probably bad for the battery, fan (because it'll have to spin faster, which could make it die faster), possibly the main board, maybe the screen (due to the heat), and the device might warp if the battery bulges

My non-homebrew-making opinion, dont give people the option. If they want to do that let them compile something on their own.

Thanks mate. Well, that's unfortunate. Just imagine how homebrew and emulators could benefit from higher clock speed. I would try it no matter what, even if it could mean replacing the battery down the line. I guess I'm the only one though.

I'd say he should give the option, but put a giant warning that says that it could damage their device

Most emulators wouldn't really benefit from it because they rely on the CPU (which can be overclocked without being very dangerous btw :P)

I was going to make anything greater than 768MHz red text. Warning too. I'm not too sure this one is going open source. If it does, I need to clean it up before it does.
That can be great for use it with a custom switch case, with a custom cooling system to be use in docked mode to improved games performance. Like a switch pro :D

Not a good idea for undocked overclock I guess...

Is it possible to disconnect the battery in software, and power the Switch only from the AC adapter so there are no problems? If the AC power adapter included with the Switch (15V*2.6A=39W) is not enough to power everything at max clock speed, can a higher wattage AC power adapter be used, such as an Apple (5V*2.4A=12W,9V*3A=27W,20V*3A=60W) power supply?

The power regulator chip in the Switch can't take all that much, remember what the Nyko docks did? I would be very careful about pushing more power than the official solutions put out.

I have added a list of dynamic resolution games that benefit from the GPU overlock by increasing resolution in my first post. This might be interesting for people that want to experiment with the overlock.

Update 3: Here is a list of dynamic resolution games that benefit from the GPU overlock by increasing resolution.
-Doom (576p)
-Wolfenstein (432-362p)
-Skyrim (720p, 896x720 under load)
-Xenoblade (552p-368p)
-Fortnite (720p-360p)
-Arc: Survival Evolved (170p in come cases :D)

(common non-OC handheld resolutions according to digital foundry in parenthesis. The lower the resolution, the higher the potential benefit from GPU overclocking)

how do you measure the resolution?

Can we make the service/mod to auto detect thoes games and enable the overclock? Have it as an option to turn on or off
That was actually plan B if I gave up on the service. Having a list/config file with title ids to check and turn it on and off for. The service is already written and working better than I thought it would though.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

I still like how a freaking mp3 file hacks webos all that security defeated by text yet again

They have simulators for everything nowdays, cray cray. How about a sim that shows you playing the Switch.

I want a 120hz 4k tv but crazy how more expensive the 120hz over the 60hz are. Or even more crazy is the price of 8k's.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
No real point since movies are 30fps
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Not a big movie buff, more of a gamer tbh. And Series X is 120hz 8k ready, but yea only 120hz 4k games out right now, but thinking of in the future.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Mostly why you never see TV manufacturers going post 60hz
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I only watch tv when i goto bed, it puts me to sleep, and I have a nas drive filled w my fav shows so i can watch them in order, commercial free. I usually watch Married w Children, or South Park
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Stremio ruined my need for nas
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I stream from Nas to firestick, one on every tv, and use Kodi. I'm happy w it, plays everything. (I pirate/torrent shows/movies on pc, and put on nas)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Kodi repost are still pretty popular
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What the hell is Kodi reposts? what do you mean, or "Wut?" -xdqwerty
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Google them basically web crawlers to movie sites
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
oh you mean the 3rd party apps on Kodi, yea i know what you mean, yea there are still a few cool ones, in fact watched the new planet of the apes movie other night w wifey thru one, was good pic surprisingly, not a cam
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Damn, only $2.06 and free shipping. Gotta cost more for them to ship than $2.06
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's where stremio comes to play never got a letter about it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just use a VPN, even give him my login and password so can use it also, and he refuses, he's funny.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I had to find and get him an old style flip phone even without text, cause thats what he wanted. No text, no internet, only phone calls. Old, old school.
