It is my own card, I remember I was able to get the firmware on the "official" website for about one year after I got it (quite a long time ago). I was stupid enough not to backup it. Later in the years however, I was able to boot it with a YS menu of some sort (it had the skin of pokemon black/white). Cannot find that anymore

I am also having problems with Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns on my R4iSDHC clone. Can't get past the 2nd day, black screen when saving the game.

Ultimately I decided to get a new card. I was looking at those on the R4i-sdhc.com website compatible with the DSi firmware 1.4.5. Do you have a good experience with those? (even running YS menu).

Before spending some money, do you want to do a last test?
Try this:https://www107.zippyshare.com/v/recf2WTz/file.html
Extract the files from the archive and copy them to the micro sd (check that it is in FAT32)

I'm sure people as this all the time. I have a R4 SDHC Gold Pro 2018. I have tested and this does contain a time bomb. So I have read using the kernel in the first post will solve the time bomb problem. Is my cart supported does anyone know? Thanks.

PS The cart has not yet expired, but I would like to solve before it happens. When I was looking on other sites, they predict that expiry is Sept 2019 for the 2018 model.

oh, that's the one without the -.

well they will still probably release an update, but i'd trust the team of the one with the dash more, as they actually provided a time bomb free update to their older cards when they couldn't make the latest firmware work on it.

I have that exact cart. Just remember to follow the instructions completely. When using the Desonei files one of the ones you’re instructed to use will be missing from the folder. Just find the file of the same name in the R4i-SDHC folder and use that. Don’t forget to format the MicroSD before doing this!

EDIT: I learned the formatting part through trial and error. You’ll have to look up the program (the one in the post is a dead link), but it’s worth finding

EDIT 2: To get the link to the formatted to work just remove everything after /downloads/ in the link and you’ll be able to download it

Hello I tried using the steps for my DSTT but I can't boot the flashcard via my 2DSXL it will give me this error message: "an error has occurred press and hold the power button to turn the system off please refer to the operations manual for details dstt". However I can boot the flashcart via the NTR Launcher, is this normal?

Yes, this is because the DSTT doesn't use a normal boot method, it would only work on an original DS and DS Lite if you didn't have a modded 2DS/3DS console.

Sorry to be that person, but what is this thread exactly?
I legit read this 10 times already but I'm not sure I understand.

I'm guessing this is a collection of AP patches for clean ROMs.
But what is YSMenu kernel needed for?

I own a DSTWO so I followed OP instructions to install YSMenu. It worked. But how is this different from the official Supercard kernel?
Also I am now limited to using a 2GB micro SD card so I am not even sure it's worth doing.

Someone please enlighten me, I am confused

So, the point is, indeed, to install YSMenu. If you’re happy with whatever firmware your card uses normally, there’s no real reason to use it. Plus, YSMenu doesn’t support special features that the card may have, like “Real-time Saves.” For me, specifically, I found the official kernel kind of ugly. More importantly, it had a “time bomb” included (it would refuse to launch after a certain date) and it wasn’t compatible with one of my games.

Now that I have YSMenu installed, I never have to worry about the time bomb again, and I am able to play all of my games with it, because it comes with its own compatibility fixes. My card was dirt-cheap, but I’m getting a premium experience with YSMenu.

The 2GB thing puzzles me. Was your old card’s firmware able to support larger cards and YSMenu isn’t? I have a different card than yours, but I’m not having any problems with my 16GB card.

Eh you shouldn't need to use YSmenu on a DSTWO, and you are limited to 2GB because it's basically in an "emulation" state on the flashcart. No different than the situation with Wood R4 on the DSTWO, it's not something anyone really should use as a primary kernel. YSmenu is only good for flashcarts that have time bombs, if you have something like Wood R4, DSTWO kernel, etc. then this option wouldn't be optimal for you.

As stated for the above quote. YSmenu is limited on the DSTWO because it's in an "emulation" state, kinda like the Wood R4 situation on the DSTWO. That's why nobody even runs Wood R4 on the DSTWO because of the 2GB limitation set for it (though it's predecessor, the SuperCard DSONE/i actually had a full blown Wood R4 port, though outdated by a few versions). YSmenu is merely a solution for time bomb flashcarts, I have no idea why someone would want to opt out of things like Wood R4 or kernels of the like for this. YSmenu isn't bad don't get me wrong, but it's not the best kernel solution either for every flashcart.

Yeah, I had another card, Ace 3ds or something. It used Wood, which I enjoyed very much and would use again if I could. However, it was missing compatibility with one of my games, and it was a closed-source fork of wood. This meant I couldn’t use any other kernel, and the community couldn’t update it.

Not necessarily true, you see we have old Wood R4 and Acekard kernel sources from back in the day, anyone is more than capable of sprucing it up so it's up to speed with today's standards of compatibility and better. The problem is people ignore these sources and let other developers who make content closed source do the work (if it even works out correctly in the end). I attempted to do it myself but I lack coding knowledge. I have pitched the idea to others before, still nothing.
