Switch custom themes sharing thread

Since we got custom themes working on switch we have been stuck on a major issue: home menu's SZS files are illegal to share because they contain copyrighted data.
This is the reason why I developed the nxtheme format: it's a custom container for switch themes that's 100% legal and that works on every firmware.
Use this thread to post your own custom themes, if you have any question ask in the Switch theme injector release thread.

TLDR; Now themes are nxtheme files, they can be installed with NxThemes Installer on any switch. nxtheme files are legal and can be shared here. DO NOT SHARE THE SZS FILES.

How to share custom themes:
1) Make a theme like you normally would
2) Click "build nxtheme" instead of "patch and save"
3) Post the output nxtheme here.
That's it. As you can see the process has been totally reworked and this time it's much easier for end users.

How to install custom themes:
1) Download NXThemes installer on your switch (it's also available on the homebrew appstore)
2) Copy the nxtheme file in the themes folder on your sd
4) Install the theme and reboot

You may also find links like the ones below, those are Auto-Theme links, it's the old way of sharing themes, when you open them it will automatically download nxtheme files you can install.

Where can i find custom themes ?
You can look in the download center, in this thread and on this subreddit

So I'll be the first:

GBATemp theme:

With Doge's layout: link

With zaigenshi's layout: link
(This only displays the first user account)

Happy sharing :)
Also a huge shout out to Costello who enabled the download center to work with Auto-Theme

how are these themes able to move the buttons around of the home screen, Im seeing the settings icon, ablum, controller icons moved into the corners or ect, is that apart of this theme homebrew? Or is it a different app to install?

Any chance for nx theme file
Download the txt file and open the links in your browser, it will generate the nxtheme

This thread was posted on Halloween. Why is it suddenly front page material?
I just released the new theme installer tool that makes legally sharing themes much easier than before

Do custom themes still cause crashes at startup/take up like half the ram?
No, the crash issues have been fixed, excessive ram usge has never been the case. Ram usage issues are known for custom sysmodules such as xorplay that adds a background music to the menu, while it's still considered "theming" it's a totally different thing

Okay seems if titles folder is missing in atmosphere/reinx folder, the theme is not installed
Iirc the titles folder issue was fixed in the last beta version but i'll check if that's still there, maybe you didn't have the layered fs kip.

I made 3 themes and downloaded 5 from here https://gbatemp.net/threads/get-your-nintendo-switch-custom-themes-here.525185/
None of them worked excepting the one in the 1st page here.
Just checked the metroid prime 4 theme and i can confirm that it crashes on me as well, i did some tests and i can safely say that the issue it's the layout.
@zahimi Sorry for pinging you again but you should fix this: in the layout there are mutliple glitched panes that make it crash, with glitched panes i mean things like this: "PaneName":"\u0014", these aren't actually part of the layout, they are picked up by the differ and the guide clearly says you should remove them manually in the json

I have a question. Say I installed a theme but it crashes my system. How would I remove the theme?
Boot without layered fs (it's a setting in ctcaer idk about sxos or reinx) and uninstall it from the installer app. If your cfw doesn't support disabling layeredfs manually delete the 0100000000001000 folder from sdcard:/<your cfw>/titles

Oh... Simple enough. Thanks for clearing that up for me, haha.

To piggyback on this. Is there a theme that defaults the home screen to “all software”?

Former Auto-theme and nxtheme files should work on every firmware, in your case the issue is clearly the layout json (but some firmwares may be more or less picky about corrupted layouts)

No, unfortunately we can't change the behavior of the home menu, custom themes can just change the layout and the backgrounds

I have szs themes will they work with your installer?
Yes but you have to check the firmware version as well.
