I have just purchased a new 128gb sdcard to replace my 32gb sdcard. I have copied all the files over to the new sdcard and I am on firmware 5.1. When booting CFW I now get an error saying I must preform a system update in order to use my microSDXC card... My old 32gb sdcard card EXFAT.

Does anyone know what is happening to me all of a sudden?

sounds like you don't have exfat driver installed.

is this the first time you use a memory card larger than 32gb?

I haven't made any changes to my system except for copying my files onto a new sd card... I definitely had exfat installed when using my old sdcard as I had a 13gb xci file running fine. That's why i'm so confused haha. :)

Your console is saying otherwise. If you want to definitively know if you have exFAT support, go to System Settings -> Support/Health & Safety. Then scroll down through the Error History and look for the number 3. If its an A, you don't have exFAT; if its a B, you do have exFAT.

did you 32gb card say sdhc or sdxc? I wonder if the switch has exfat support for cards that are 32gb or lower but the moment you put anything bigger it promts you to get the update..strange indeed.

Here is the message: "A system update is required to use the microSDXC memory card."

It shows when I load the home screen and the album button does not load the SX screen when clicked.

It reads micro sdhc in tiny writing, so yep it's sdhc 32gb :)
so there you go. I guess it doesn't matter if the sd card is formatted to fat32 or exfat what matters is if it's sdhc or sdxc. I don't think anybody really knows this as of right now. So basically you can use exfat on the switch as long as the sd card is 32gb or lower.

Thanks for your help, i found similar info just then on this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-update-for-sdxc-exfat.498191/page-3

Have you heard of any way to install this update without updating to 6.0 and getting banned by nintendo?

did you say you formatted the sd card to exfat and then you copied a 13gb file onto it and it worked for you with sx-os? I want to make sure because i'm going to make a thread about this.

I formatted my 132gb sdxc card to EXFAT and pasted my 13gb .xci file. I cannot run it yet as the update alert appears on homescreen.

you can update offline but it's not very easy and the wrong guide can brick your switch. At least I know of a youtube guide that is outdated and can brick your switch . Find the one on gbatemp.

oh I thought you said you had a 13gb file on your 32gb sd card. Why did you think your 32gb sd card was exfat?

You can't install the update without going to 6.0 while avoiding a ban by Nintendo; its either or. (Well, there is a slightly risky way of getting exFAT while not burning fuses however its not recommend unless you have a good jig to re-enter RCM with).

I had the same .xci file working on my 32gb sdcard before buying this one. So you are correct, sorry mate i'm stumbling over my words haha.

Would i be ok to update to 6.0 offline, and if so, would that include the exFAT update?

so that confirms that exfat does work on the switch prior to the update as long as you use an sdhc card... that's very interesting.

A poster in my previously linked thread states that it is based on the size as to whether the alert shows, apparently if over 64gb, the alert will show.
