Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini delayed to 2019

IMG_1504.JPG

Earlier this year, we saw SEGA announce the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini console, which would feature retro games built in. Originally, this was set to only launch in Japan, but due to demand, SEGA is delaying the mini throwback system in order to be able to release it worldwide. A re-design of the current hardware is also being looked into, with some extra staff being hired on to the project. The new release window has been pushed back to 2019, but now there will be a simultaneous launch in Japan, Europe, and North America.

Well, i though nintendo started the mini consome thrend
With nes mini

What? They didnt?

Namco and Atari have had mini console collections, either in the form of a joystick or a joystick + game console. Having said that, the people who started the trend would arguably be famiclones with illegally licensed NES games and NES on a Chip systems which could be stuffed into all sorts of shapes. Regardless, Nintendo didn't really set the trend.

Would like to have M2 just put sega games on Switch like they have been doing on 3DS the past years. I mean yeah they announced the Sega Ages cart for it but something like the nintendo classics on switch would also be nice to have added as part of the sub package.

@Chary was there any more announcements for the sega ages on switch yet? It's been months. :unsure:
There was a recent poll asking for which game the fans want the most for sega ages recently so they might announce the winners of that at the tokyo game show

More or less expecting this will find a new way to botch up the audio output like every other third party Sega device has already done.

I was actually hoping that other HDMI Genesis would have been good, but it betrayed by using a SoC and having mono output over HDMI... and emulating the Model 3/Firecore rather than the Model 2 or the Model 1. I still don't get why nobody making these things even attempt to try and emulate the Model 1 Genesis considering every Sega veteran will pretty much say that the Model 1 had the best audio quality, even if it was obnoxious to extract the stereo output.

Break up audio? Is it that bad?
Can we compare it to pokemon yellow Pikachus voice?
I remember it being broken on modern system

On a Model 1, its standard A/V out only outputs mono. It had the headphone jack though, so you could get your stereo output by getting a head-phones to RCA adapter cable to get the stereo out from the system.
On a Model 2 or later, the revised pin-out allows stereo audio out through the same cable. So it is more convenient; but it's widely considered that the Model 2's audio chip is simply not as good as that in a Model 1.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.

    @Psionic Roshambo, Yeah, BonziBuddy was both spyware and ad-ware. It collected children's personal information without consent as well as display fake Windows popups.
