Hi, can somebody give me a little hand here.. sorry if I am completely dumb, but I cant't get it working:

I want to use my DS4 controller (second, current version) with retroArch to play some old Gameboy games with my WiiU. So I understand that I need to download the controller ini files from Maschell, and put them in the SD:\wiiu\controller\ folder to get HID support, and then choose the controller in the retroArch input configuration and map the buttons. The problem is, the controller doesn't appear there, so I cant't choose it (only WiiU gamepad and connected WiiMote/NunChuk shows up..) I got my DS4 controller plugged into one of the front USB slots of my WiiU. It works fine there with Nintendont, for example, so the hardware works very well. Any advice?

Thanks!!
ok I think I just figured, the issue is, that the new DS4 controller isn't supported by HIDtoVPAD and thus also doesn't work with retroArch...

Anybody had any success running Spiderman The Videogame (ARCADE) at a good framerate?

The rom I have only runs on MAME 2009 and MAME 2010 at a crawling 28.5 fps with audio stutter.

Hello everyone,

i have a question about the new retroarch on Wii u.
I tried to to get Killer Instict 2 running but it always crashes.
I tried every Mame and FB Core, with different roms and chds.
Every other core works perfect.

So, is there a way to get it running?

I can confirm the 1st Killer Instinct arcade game running at around 10fps with Mame 2009 core. Mame 2010 looks like it tries to load it too but all other Mame cores crash with an error.

It’ll be a while before the two Killer Instinct run at any decent speeds on the WiiU.

it will be more like never... on mame at least
someone could try to port XXX (the ki emulator) but that's a whole different thing
I can see XXX working on WiiU, the problem is who is willing to port it on such small scene as the WiiU one is.

I did ask the author if he'd be interested in porting... he wasnt :P

Problem with XXX is that there is a huge amount of forks / hacks and the codebase seems to be very MSVC specific...

How do I apply cheats? I downloaded cht file, but it just drops me back into the game when I choose it. Doesn't allow me to pick specific cheat I want. I want to go through Star Fox with cheats, it's impossible without them.

Young sir, I say unto you that Star Fox is most certainly not impossible without cheats - thou must improve thine skills my good lad!
Er, that aside, try to re-download the cheats file, either by the online updater or via PC.... or perhaps you're on a certain nightly and need to update that: cheats do work, just try again ;)

I've tried it on PC and it's the same thing. I'm not sure, maybe cheat files or ROM is broken. I was able to use cheat in standalone SNES9x emulator though.

What resolution does Snes9x, Nestopia and Genesis Plus GX output?
Is it 256x224 or 256x240? I'm guessing for Nestopia is outputting 256x224 with Vertical Overscan cut off enabled by default. And if I disable it it'll give me 256x240?

I want to know to perform the right calculation to resize for my 1080p display.
https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/Overscan

Here's the Math formula I got from Nes Wiki. 256*(R/N)*(8/7), where R is replace with Horizontal Resolution of your display. And for N it's Horizontal Resolution of Nes output. So for my case it'll be 256*(1080/240)*(8/7) which will give you 1316 if Nestopia outputs 256x240. So resolution for correct aspect ratio is 1316x1080. This should fill the screen top and bottom and maintain a good Horizontal Resolution for correct aspect ratio.

Also how is a formula based on pixel clock rate devised? I'm looking at FBX's comment and I want to know so I can apply the same thing to other emulators that uses a different resolution. https://www.videogameperfection.com/forums/topic/43-87-aspect-ratio-correction-for-snes/

So for my questions, what resolution does Snes9x, Nestopia and Genesis Plus GX output?
And how do I find out what the Pixel Clock Rate is.

The dirty little secret about the analog video output domain and all that pixel clock stuff is this: There's no such thing as getting it perfect, because "perfect" doesn't exist in analog. Aspect Ratio "Correction" is a misnomer. Give me an example of a CRT that was exactly, 100% 4:3. Didn't think so. Salt to taste. I prefer 1:1 Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) to maximize motion resolution. Though I don't mind stretching with good interpolation, on occasion.

I have a damn shader binary for the Wii U. How do I make Retroarch recognize the file? What should the extension be? Do I also need to mess around with a "Preset" GLSLP file?

Also, I left Retroarch 1.7.4 running Super Mario All Stars + World in the Retroarch menu for an extended period of time. Maybe 20 minutes. When I returned, the Gamepad was still on, but the Wii U had completely frozen. Stability seems like an issue.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
