Hey everyone,

I'm kind of new to the scene and have a few questions - sorry if they are obvious to you.

I've got a Switch, with a good serial number & have an SX OX Pro arriving soon. I've never been online with it, haven't even typed in my WIFI password.

I'm not bothered about online play or eShop at all, considering I can get everything elsewhere.

My concern is with the actual bans though.

Am I likely to get locked out of anything / banned by updating the firmware to play new games?
If we can't download firmware updates, I'm happy to do it manually - is this possible?
Is there a possibility of bricking consoles in the future via firmware updates?
Would a full NAND backup help with this?
If after a ban I can continue to update and play games, then that's fine. Am I worrying unnecessarily?

Thanks.

You can update all of your games and firmwares offline using homebrew so the only thing you lose from a ban is the ability to play online. If you really wish to avoid a ban, your best is by making a clean NAND backup before hacking the console using Hekate, staying offline with all of your hacks, restoring that NAND backup prior to going online, then making another NAND backup after connecting online and repeating the process every time. Or you can just accept your fate and do everything apart from online multiplayer.

1. Not if you stay offline
2. Yes you can install firmware updates manually. Use ChoiDujourNX.
3. Don’t do anything until you have a full Nand backup. Use Cannas guide in the tutorial section.
4. Very much so. :rofl2:

Thank you both for your speedy responses! It's very useful.
Honestly, I don't care about online play. It sounds like I'm being overly paranoid!

Thanks for the names, I'll check them all out :D

  • I have Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for the Switch
  • When I try to download DLC quests from Capcom's server it asks me to update my firmware
  • I'm on ReiNX and don't want to update and lose my CFW status
Is there anyway to bypass the update requirements? Is there another way of getting their DLC quests?

Not at the current time no. Either update with or without burning fuses.

Just bought a switch, everything seems setup far as I can tell. Tried this with hekate / atmo / reinx. Tinfoil refusing to install games. Tried Treasure Tracker, Zelda, Dead Cells.

For some reason the games won't install, but the Zelda updates / dlc DID install.

System firmware 3.0.2, installed exfat driver, 128GB sdcard almost empty

Failed to install NSP!
... is corrupt! You may have a bad dump, or fs_mitm may need to be removed.. Error code: 0x00236e02
Done!

I tried to remove fs_mitm like it suggested, but either I did that wrong or it made no difference.
Been trying to get this working myself all day, 50 tabs open lol. Any help greatly appreciated!

Your firmware is too low to support whatever you're trying to install. Update with or without burning fuses using ChoiDujourNX

am I able to just go to my local shops and get a Switch off the shelf and it will be able to run back ups if I print out this thread and use it as a guide? switch-informations-by-serial-number.481215/? I'm a bit confused

Pretty much. Some serial numbers are not confirmed to be patched or not and need to be manually tested so ensure you purchase your console from a store that has a good return policy.

Is it possible to transfer profiles/accounts from one Switch to another on different firmware?

I have a Switch I've kept offline since I got it. It's on 4.1.0 and unpatched. It's my main console right now and has my saves. I just bought a used (also unpatched) Switch with 5.1.0 firmware. I haven't done any CFW installs on either Switch. I want to transfer my profile/saves to the 5.1.0 Switch to use as my main console and be online. Then I can keep my other 4.1.0 Switch offline after the transfer and use it for CFW. So I want to get the 4.1.0 Switch online just to create the account and transfer, but I don't want to update it at all. Will that work or will it force an update to do the transfer? I know about Checkpoint, but I think that risks a ban and defeats the purpose of keeping at least one console legit.

If you want to transfer your saves to a Switch that will be "used legit", what I suggest is:
- wait for the Cloud Saves on 6.0
- backup the 4.1 NAND
- update the 4.1 to 6.0 without burning fuses
- send your saves to the cloud in that Switch
- restore your backup to go back to 4.1
- get your saves from the cloud on the second "legit" Switch

Someone else had said emphatically "DON'T EVER UPDATE!!?!@!!!" so I never even looked at that. Great to know that it can be downgraded if a software mod comes out.

I updated to 5.1.0, and also found an update for tinfoil. Everything works great now.

Thanks so much for your help - really appreciated! :)

Wouldn't that be a risk for being banned on the first console? To boot without burning fuses he should boot with a CFW.

Personally, I updated my FW to 5.1 without burning fuses by using the "risky method"
i.e. update in OFW, then stick in a 100% reliable jig and hold vol + as it restarts after the update, to go straight into RCM.

Then I can boot "stock/OFW" in Hekate, which still prevents burning fuses (it's not exactly "CFW" as nothing in Horizon is changed, only the fuse programming in the bootloader is skipped, which is WAY before anything Horizon runs).

So I never had to boot CFW and/or load homebrew (like what is needed when using the ChoiDujourNX method of updating without burning fuses).

At that point, you'd only be banned if Nintendo goes as far as to detect fuse count mismatch, or if they detect the "booted from RCM" flag (both are supposedly detectable, but N hasn't gone that far... if those flag a ban, NOTHING is safe).

Also, the OP I was responding to said that they wanted to keep ONE console legit, and keep ONE in 4.1. I think that satisfies both those conditions (after all, the 2nd Switch stays legit).

I used my sx os pro for the first time yesterday and had a similar problem. I had to get the license online via my pc. Do you have a license-request.dat on your micro sd card?

Hi !
trying to update exfat using this guide (with : hacdiskmount and stuff) https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...tch-console-on-any-ofw-without-update.505182/

But, when i launch memloader on my switch and try ums_emmc.ini i have an error :

"Read 194 bytes from ums_emmc.ini parsing...
Cannot find = separator in kv pair '' on line 0; skipping

Same error with the other ini (except the number of bytes obviously)

Anyone knowing what's that ?

thx

Sorry if I'm not directly answering your question, but why are you not using the homebrew version of ChoiDujourNX which makes the entire process of obtaining exFAT much simpler?
