Hello Everyone

Today i got my SX pro and im willing to hack my nintendo switch in order to play offline. But in the same time i want to keep an open door to restore my switch in order to play again online and use nintendo online service.

Reading online i saw many users talking about banned consoles and how to avoid that with different results.

with this post i want to share with you what im planning to do and i want to know if it is correct. so maybe others can follow me.

First of all before starting the hacking :

1 : backup my nintendo folder from sd/root ( i dunno why i do that, but since everything is there,i thought its a good idea.)

2 : backup my nand and other system files using Canna Guide (backup and restore your nand)

3: unlink my nintendo account which contain purchased games from eshop from my nintendo switch. to do so im suppposed to go to the eshop and deactivate it there.( so in case the console get banned somehow,my nintendo account wont be banned and i can use it in a new console in case)

4: disable system update by changing the dns and letting only the appstore using the internet

5: hack the switch following different guides( in my case SX pro guide)

The only thing im not sure of, is if i can backup my saving games bought from eshop using a homebrew app and restore them on the xci files. Does that work?

So guys. Do you think its the right way?

by doing this im not loosing my nintendo account and all purchased games?

Thanks for the answer

  • The Nintendo folder houses all data installed to the SD card, such as games, updates, and DLC as well as any screenshots you took
  • Your Nintendo Account will likely never get banned nor will it affect your chances of getting banned. However if you have any purchases tied to that account and your console becomes banned, you'll only be able to un-link the Nintendo Account after calling Nintendo
  • A DNS server that blocks all Nintendo traffic makes it impossible to get banned at the cost of blocking all Nintendo-online related services. Meaning using a custom DNS server such as that is a self-imposed ban that can turn into a real ban once you remove the DNS settings
  • Redirect all further banning-related questions in this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-switch-banning-hub-warning.508710/

Saves are saves as long as they match the title id...Backup with a homebrew app like checkpoint or edizon should work fine...
Thanks for the mention,, But glad your backing up first before you mess with it..

You also did not mention the system version you are on, if you are not too fussed about being on lower system version, then you can update to 5.1.0 first then backup emmc(nand) if you like,,

Would it be better to wait until you can update to 6.0 official fw before installing os ox?
No, the longer you wait, the more hacks you risk breaking. Everything is perfectly supported on 5.1 for now including hacks and online content. Once 6.0 drops, certain hacks/homebrew may not work meaning you'll have to choose between online service and hacking. There is no reason to wait up on firmware 6.0

Thanks for the reply, I thought maybe that having a later fw might be better to play future games etc. I'm supposed to be getting my sx os pro delivered by the weekend but knowing my luck the 6.0 update will be out then!

Currently, there are no games that require firmware 6.0. Eventually, it'll be safe to update but only after the community updates its tools to work with the firmware. The point I am trying to make is that preemptively updating is one of the worst things you can do as an end-user. There is nothing even substantial added to this firmware that's worth updating to.

speaking of that, are xci and nsp saves interchangeable not just with their official counterparts but also with each other? I mean the title id doesn't change with these does it? I'm not sure which region some of the games are on that "dark" site, so I'm not sure if my saves will work if and when I decide to hack the system.

Should be the same unless someone changes the title id deliberately, but all you have to do is export and inject to the game you want with the home brew save editors/ backup app anyway..

And before hacking the system use my guide to do a full backup...
Get your cfw running backup your saves with the save file backup apps/homebrew...

I like your steps and that's what I thought I'd do too. I just didn't thought about unlinking account so thanks for the reminder.

Not sure if it's important, but I would unlink the eshop account before doing the NAND dump.
because if you restore the dump (which contains a still linked account on your console), I don't know how nintendo will react if you try to re-unlink it, or try to access eshop with a linked account on your console but unlinked on their servers.
Maybe I'm overthinking. But that's what I'd do to be safe, and won't need to call nintendo to do any link/unlink action.

it's good to backup, that way you can restore it to the state it was before hacking the console, without the added logs or games games on it.
in case you restore your NAND, remember to restore the SD too.

I would only backup the SD to PC after making the NAND backup, to backup both the SD and the NAND dump to PC, instead of two different steps, but doing two backup steps is fine too.
so, I would start with 3-2-1

I was wondering about exactly the same point, i.e. if I shall unlink my account prior the NAND backup. Unlinking only afterwards makes no sense in my opinion as one can easily get flagged after NAND restore with a linked account.

The problem that I have is that I bought some DLC's that I do not want to lose by unlinking the account... Of course I can recover them later on by re-linking the account to the switch, but as long as the account is not linked there is no way to use them. At least this is my understanding and I hope it is correct?!

So normally I want to avoid unlinking the account from the switch, but on the other hand I also want to minimize the risk that the account gets banned in combination with a switch console ban (which I hope it will not).

How did others solve this issue?
Just unlink before the NAND backup and therefore accept to make DLC's unusable for the time being? Or take the risk and keep the account linked when doing the NAND backup (in this case it makes no sense for me to unlink later on as the Switch remains offline anyway as long as CFW is installed). If the Switch gets banned then, this would make the account (store access) unusable as well?

Hope to receive some help here as I currently have the CFW on hold even though the SX Pro is here already...
