The CBHC installer will list the DS VC games that you can install it over creating the DO NOT TOUCH ME icon. The installer homebrew app only lists the possible DS games to install over and I'm curious if I still need to remember which one I chose.
Each application has a titleID, and that doesn't change

Find out the titleID of your DONT TOUCH ME (the simplest way is probably the title launcher of systemconfigtool) and look it up into the Haxchi/CBHC compatibility list (maybe the installer even shows it directly!)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Are there capacitors in the wiiu that could stay charged enough after months of no use to allow the update to commence? Or am i being paranoid.
You are, especially for an update with no negative effects compared to 5.5.2; and no there aren't, if the console autoupdates on boot it's because the update was already downloaded

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Well the difference I see is the TVii icon, however that was removed ages ago with a much earlier update.
The picture is from either the manual or from a forced tutorial you get in the first uses of the console; too bad that the updated picture is only used on American consoles, and only European ones got the 5.5.3 launcher update

Everyone says for CBHC you need to reinstall CBHC, does that mean I have to remember what DS game I installed it over and select it again? Because I honestly don't recall what game I used off hand.
you don't have an european WiiU, CBHC is not replaced ! you don't have to reinstall it.

Reinstalling CBHC is only IF coldboot doesn't work anymore.
if your CBHC still work fine, there's no reason to reinstall it.

If you have to reinstall it, yes it'll be done over the same NDS game, you'll have to remember it or you might brick your console by installing CBHC over a bad-signed VC-NDS game.
I didn't try, but maybe CBHC will detect the new channel's name "do not touch!" instead of the original NDS game's name, so it should be easy to know which one you have to select. select the "do not touch!" one.

No, still on 5.5.1 here. Going to continue to stay on 5.5.1. I think the reason most people like to update is just for something to do/busy work.
the reason most people are updating is because if you don't you'll have to launch NNUpatcher every time you want to access eShop or update a game.
the update doesn't fix any security or homebrew related function, so it's safe to update and not bother with nnupatcher. it's just easier, but not required.
the update is only few MB (1MB?) so it's not really keeping people busy for long.

disable dns, update, enable dns, relaunch cbhc installer if coldboot has been replaced.
You are right, it'll take longer if you deleted the Update folder to block automatic updates.

Somtimes modded vWii side will not let you update Wii U side.
that's right, you need proper IOS files on vWii.
if you ever reinstalled a WAD of your IOS <200, it can be the problem. NUSD does not generate proper wad, unlike some user think because it seems to install without problem.
There's no problem patching IOS80 directly on the console, or installing cIOS >200

For posterity, is there a a program that does generate a proper wad?

on computer : no
homebrew on the console : yes !

like the safety steps recommended in vWii softmod guides that most users prefer to skip, use BlueDumpMod to dump your clean vWii IOS without patching any signature/tmd/ticket to get a proper backup of good IOS.
of course, this is to be done before touching or editing your IOS or they won't be cleanly dumped.

Note: vWii IOS have no region, or consoleID. it means a clean IOS dumped from one console can be used to fix another console's bad IOS.

if you want to backup your IOS, you can follow the pinned thread "definitive vWii hacking guide" in the wiiu hacking section.

Does the vWii side stay hacked? I currently have 5.5.2e with haxchi set up so I hold b to run hack as and when I need it. Am I safe to update?

I had the same Error Code: 105-3015 message even though I had the update folder, in the past I did remove this folder to stop updates and added the update folder back ages ago with the correct FOLDER PERMISSIONS.

This is what I did to fix, hopefully it will work for you and others who have the same Error Code message.

- Boot into CFW and launch FTPiiU Everywhere
- User you preferred FTP client, I'm using FileZilla.
- Locate the update folder at the following location: /storage_mlc/sys
- Right Click on the update folder and select File permissions..., take note of the Numeric Value: 755.
- If you have deleted the update folder in the past and added it back again, chances are that you may have not changed the Numeric Value to 755, but in my case it was already set to 755.
- Delete the update folder.
- Re create the update folder.
- Right Click on the update folder and select File permissions..., and change the Numeric Value to 755 then click OK to save.
- Now reboot your WiiU console and try to do a system update again, this time around, it should start updating.

See how you go.
