ive had the switch on 2.1 for a year now.
I want to update to the latest 5.1 firmware.
Do I just go online and upgrade?
I haven’t used it online ever!
And used only 2 Xci games.

I don’t really care about fuses and stuff or online.

What’s the best way.

If you don't care about fuses or getting banned, I suppose you could just update the official way by downloading the update. Those are the only reasons most, if not all, people wouldn't update using the normal method.

No, you use AutoRCM and choidujournx to updated without burning fuse, so that you can later downgrade.
But because you don't care, yes. Just go ahead and update.

i had read a super loooong tutorial months back on updating without burning fuses, is there a easier shorter version now?

In short:
  • If you don't care about having the ability to downgrade back to 2.1.0, then you can connect to the internet and update normally.
  • If you do care about having the ability to downgrade back to 2.1.0, then you should use ChoiDujourNX to update, keeping AutoRCM installed indefinitely.

Yes, ChoiDujourNX.

where do i acquire 5.1 folder?
From the thread I just linked:
You still need to acquire the folders containing firmware content somehow, some of the options are:
  • Extract the UPDATE partition from an XCI image of the cartridge that contains the update you want into a folder
These are common cartridges and firmware versions they contain:
Puyo Puyo Tetris/ 1-2 Switch (1.0.0) - would never recommend installing this one as no Switch made with 1.0.0 actually runs it (its a slightly different 1.0.0 with exFAT that bricks you)
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2/ Mario plus Rabbids Kingdom Battle/Cars 3 Driven to Win (2.1.0)
Splatoon 2/ Sonic Forces (2.3.0)
Pokemon Tournament DX (3.0)
Batman The Telltale Series/ Syberia 2/ The Elder Scrolls V. Skyrim (3.0.1)
Attack on Titans 2/ Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (3.0.2)
Bayonetta 2/ Gal Gun 2 (4.0.1)
Kirby Star Allies (4.1.0)
Octopath Traveler (5.0.2)
Taiko no Tatsujin Nintendo Switch Version JPN (5.1.0)
  • Copy the SYSTEM:/Contents/registered folder from another Switch that is running the firmware version you want
  • Copy the SYSTEM:/Contents folder from a Switch that has a "System update is pending" notification. This will let you pick either the currently running firmware, or the pending firmware to install.
  • *cough* xbins *cough*

I Always was under the impression AutoRCM was a legit battery drainer as oposed to regular sleep mode.
I don't mind using my RCM Jig but going ChoiDujourNX seems to be the only way to keep the Switch up-to-date, while keeping the possibility to downgrade.

AutoRCM drains batters only if you leave your Switch in it. If you power it off from Hekate or any other payload, it will normally turn off.

Oh? So basically there are no downsides/disadvantages as long as i play it by these rules. Sounds good :)
Now i have no fear of updating my console (i have a backup ready of the fuses/keys, BOOT/PKG/SYSTEM eMMC, but NOT the USER partition i.e. no full/raw nand).

Don't you need GPP partition as well do downgrade?

I noticed GPT is part of the USER partition, but someone on here (can't recall his name or the thread) mentioned only system related NAND parts are required to restore the Swtich. I'll try to find the post because i don't want to make any mistakes.

I had a 2.1 switch and i tried updating it to 5.1 with choidujour but sadly that didnt go well so I had to update to 5.1 normally and i really dont regret it. Having to play latest games and enjoying them is pure joy. But you talked about xci are you using sx pro or sx os.

Hi, I'm on 3.00 and am thinking about getting sx os pro - total noob to be honest when it comes to hacking so do you reckon I should do what you eventually did ie just update to the latest fw? In future fw updates are yopu able to do that with sx running? Appreciate any advice!

SX OS uses the fusee gelee hardware exploit, meaning it doesn't matter what firmware version you are on and you can update freely.

However, if you want to be able to downgrade in the future to make use of a possible software exploit, you have to update without burning fuses and enable autoRCM.

Personally I think it's worth having autoRCM and having the possibility of using a software exploit. Just power off the Switch properly so that the battery doesn't drain. If it does you can recover it, but it is not good for the battery health.

Thanks for the reply. Don't you have autoRCM with SX OS even if you are on the latest fw? Is the only difference between a software exploit and SX OS not having to use a jig/dongle to enter CFW?

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
