Hey guys. Just decided to buy the switch. Not sold officially here. I know a few shops that sell it physically. Can I check serial number and buy them without being able to check for fusee gelee? I cannot return once bought and I want an unpatched unit.

I just did, I just went into gamestop and straight up told them what I want it for, and they made sure I had a switch that was unpatched.

So here in India I'm not sure if the vendors will even now about patched and unpatched unit.

There is no official support from Nintendo also.

Oops how to edit my previous post?

I meant vendors here dont know about this stuff. So they might not be helpful with finding an unpatched unit. If it is 100% sure that the serial numbers mentioned will be unpatched I can atleast request for that and buy accordingly.

Edit : Found it under message tools

Same as in every other part of the world, vendors have no clue about if a switch is patched or not. You need to tell your vendor that you want a switch with a certain serial number. Have a look under the TL;DR section in the OP.
Tell your vendor you want a switch with a serial number that is below the ones that are marked in green. Those are 100% unpatched.

No, the serials on the switch aren't green. They are all black. This is what I meant:

TL;DR:

Serials beginning with XAW1:
XAW1007XXX and below are safe to buy
XAW1008XXX not safe to buy, probably patched
XAW1009XXX and above definitely patched

Serials beginning with XAW4:
No patched Switch has been reported yet

Serials beginning with XAW7:
XAW70017X and below are safe to buy
XAW70018X not safe to buy, probably patched
XAW70019X and above definitely patched

Serials beginning with XAJ1:
No patched Switch has been reported yet

Serials beginning with XAJ4:
XAJ40052X and below are safe to buy
XAJ40053X not safe to buy, probably patched
XAJ4006XX and above definitely patched

Serials beginning with XAJ7:
XAJ70042X and below are safe to buy
XAJ70043X not safe to buy, probably patched
XAJ7005XX and above definitely patched

You need to find a switch with serial number lower than the one marked in green.

XAW1008XXX not safe to buy, probably patched.

Look, even with the full serial, it is not possible to tell for sure in your case. XAW1008 is the break up point where unpatched and patched units are produces simultaneously.
So it has a realistic chance for beging patched. If you want to be sure, return your switch and get a new one that has a lower serial number. Your other option is to gamble and test
if it is unpatched or not.

Since the Switch Boxing is not tamper proof you can simply unpack the Switch and test it.
Repack and return if it is patched... easy

The op says XAW1008 is patched
More accurately the OP says some XAW1008 and XAW1009 units are patched - not all. I'm also curious about if there's any neon vs gray difference in patched vs unpatched units. Probably not... the serial number is on the console and the joycons have seemingly unrelated SNs....
