Try again sweety, the chink clones (Including the R4) come with a jig of very high quality. I can personally vouch!

Well if that's the case then what DO they have, other than running .XCI which apparently the R4 dongle can ALSO do, that other firmwares don't have? It's the Gateway all over again

The only substantive thing they have is .XCI-loading, which is analogous to Gateway's .3DS-loading. There's no need for .XCI-loading, and the free alternatives are also likely to get .XCI loading in the future.

I'm doubtful we'll ever see a free software solution to XCI loading, just like we never saw it on the 3DS. NSPs are just too convenient, there's really no reason to keep fighting with firmware updates and maintain a XCI loader when NSPs do everything they do, but more convenient.

That's not to say I wouldn't appreciate seeing such a thing come to fruition, simply as a final solution to a certain company.

And yet everyone and their mothers claim .XCI is safer than .NSP...Not something i personaly believe in

We never got cartridge backup-loading on free 3DS CFW because it worked using a flashcart in the cartridge slot. People are working on XCI-loading, and it doesn't have the same kind of limitiations.

That being said, I agree there isn't much of a demand for .XCI-loading on the Switch now that we have NSP files.

XCI files are not safe. You will likely be banned if you connect to the internet on a Switch that has played XCI backups.

Ah, I forgot this was a thing. As of now, I'm completely satisfied with the way things are going. I'm very surprised this much is capable from free solutions this early on, and I look forward to the future. Isn't that impressive? It's as if all of the people that made the 3DS pure cancer didn't move away from the 3DS, and a bunch of new developers with realistic ideologies are doing what people actually want. When does that ever happen on a Nintendo console's hacking scene?

You should had hakate + SigPatch + LayeredFs since it's do the same thing as the other CFW ...

It can play backup ( nsp + Layered ) + hb ...

I think we are a few ppl using it :)

Any short backstory on this? I am very interested to know?
Join #switchdev on EFNet. Basically anyone with moderator status is someone you should hope and pray sticks strictly to library development on the Switch, and nothing else. Odds are very likely that many of them had access to the Tegra RCM exploit well before the beginning of this year. Morality being reason for nondisclosure, obviously.

The creator of ReiNX probably can recount it much better than I can. ;)

SXOS, it was the only CFW supporting piracy at the time, I bought the Pro kit so I could hack my switch easily. I've tried the other CFWs and they don't add anything over SXOS, and they also take more steps to boot.

Gee, I sure hope your console doesn't get bricked or anything because there's nothing in SX OS that can save you from a brick.

Hypothetically, sales for SX OS are likely already in decline with the existence of free alternatives like RajNX and ReiNX. The exact same thing happened to Gateway once rxTools with signature patches was released. It could also be preemptive. Lastly, good marketing is always good, no matter how popular the product is, and many of these accounts likely already existed to hype the product before the poll.
Dude what is wrong with you.
SX Pro is the best and easiest to use cfw. Thats why the majority of people use it. No trial and error no fucking around with other apps to make it work correctly. It works for everyone on every firmware.
What is really not clear is why people don't use it.
And that main reason appears to be it cost money

1)no it's not. ReiNX and RajNX and hell even Hekate are just as easy and even better as they offer more features
2) The majority of people use it because it came FIRST with the ability to play backups
3) Right now there is NO trial and error to run any other CFW, it's just following a tutorial, it couldn't be ANY more simple and yeah, they work for everyone too
3) People don't use it for a variety of reasons. The stolen code, the fact that the OS itself costs money which is BS or any other reason other people might have

You didn't expect that SXOS's popularity and "advantage" was going to last forever did you?

Umm you know that was largely BS right? No one has ever reported being bricked, and they also removed the code. Stop being salty.
What? That SX OS can recover you from a brick? I don't remember that being debunked.

Or maybe you misunderstood everything I just said and did not mention anywhere that SX OS contained brick code.

Ummm you missunderstood. They weren't talking about the supposed brick code in SXOS, they were saying that SXOS has no tools that can save you in the eventuality of your system getting bricked. No NAND backup tools, no NAND restoration tools, nothing of the sort

I'm using RajNX so technically Atmosphere? I was using ReiNX but I like the LayeredFS support. Mods make games worth playing again.

Technically none of the other CFWs have that either, Hekate (the bootloader, not the firmware) has a the ability to backup and restore, which I did before I modded anything. You guys are acting like if you use one it's impossible to use the other. I have both ReiNX, Hekate and SXOS on my SDcard.

If SXOS or any other firmware somehow bricks the console, I booted up Hekate and restore it just like anyone else would. SXOS really has no bearing on it.

You said, and i quote"I've tried the other CFWs and they don't add anything over SXOS" Now considering that Hekate CAN be called a CFW or at the very least is an essential part of booting the other CFW and SXOS doesn't use it in any way, shape or form, you saying that the other CFW don't have anything over SXOS is simply FALSE. Because they do, and it's not just NAND backup and restore tools either

Doesn't Rei support LayeredFS too?

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
