Why can’t we convert .xci backups, used by SX OS, to .nsp? I mean they’re both backups.. so what’s the deal?

XCI are backups from the direct card game meanwhile the nsp is "the install game" like CIA on 3ds, NSP use less space but you have alot of chances to get banned, and XCI is less chance of ban. anyway wharever you use you will be banned.... the less risk is do a backup of the nand before you hack and when you want to go online just restore the clean nand.

also XCI is only supported by Sx CFW
NSP: SX CFW, ReiCFW and i dont know if hekate

Uhm... and Why is the .NSP more risky to get a ban?

the games have a certificate on the card, you can make a sustitution, but obviously Nity can detect it in some ways but maybe is a bit harder compared with NSP, because you have installed game that you never bought

Because .NSP is a digital game download version and nintendo can very quickly and easily see that your playing a digital game your account doesnt own. Where as XCI is a physical game cart dump with a unique certificate (think game key) so the only way Nintendo can know if its pirated is if more than 1 person is using the same cart/certificate code. Because of this people are having success with importing certs form games they Do own and injecting them into their backup xci files so that they have a unique code others arn't using.

As a result of XCI being direct cartridge dumps, their file sizes are either 2GB/4GB/8GB/16GB....they can be trimmed, however, that is an extra step. So a game may actually 9GB, but had to be put on a 16GB card...therefore the XCI file will be 16GB...NSP files are just game data, therefore the NSP file of the same title would only be 9GB. XCI files have also been said to be slower than NSP...I haven't personally tested that though and not sure if it's true on a lot of game or if the speed is very noticeable. NSP is just easier to deal with IMO because using FreeShop, you can download the games directly onto your system. You can install DLC via DevMenu and it all shows up on the "home screen" without having to load Album....

There are several people working on this, but it requires some extensive experience working with cryptographic functions. e.g. not begginers stuff.

Don't worry about the fine details, just know that its nowhere easy or simple as you put it, and that smart people are working on it and it will be out sooner than later.

So, if we install .NSP files, they appear on the home screen, similarly to how it happened on the 3DS?
