EA quietly ends the On the House free game program

Back at E3 2018, Electronic Arts announced a new service that would let players access their Origin Vault and play over 100 different games for a monthly fee of $14.99. Today, it was revealed that the service will be going live on July 30, but when they made this announcement, it was also noticed that on the same day, EA quietly discontinued something else. What that turned out to be was their On the House program, which used to offer free games each month to users. These free titles ranged from Battlefield 3, to Peggle, to Sims 2 and all its expansions, and nearly 35 others throughout On the House's 4 year run. Now, when you visit the old On the House link, it redirects you to a page where you can purchase a subscription for Origin Access instead, and has been officially stated by EA to no longer be active. The last game they offered was Peggle, earlier this year.

Was a great service and even made me install Origin on accation. Can't fault then for stopping it as your can't complain for getting stuff for free.

Already have acces for 25 a year. If they can do a good deal like that with the new subscription. Something like 60 euro a year i would def subscribe

Hmm...I guess it'll be missed by some, but not by me. I've seen the on the house mentions, but this is EA we're talking about. Giving in to a free game from them is akin to accepting a free sample from your local drug dealer: it might feel good and you're in no way obligated to actually BUY something, but since you received something for free, you might as well return the favor ("maybe they're NOT as bad as others say?") and spend it on something that's on discount.

...and before you know it, then you've got to explain at home why you went with yet another dealer when your house is already packed to the roof with drugs from your humble steam dealer.

They made this service to incentivise people logging into Origin and checking out their storefront. I guess with EA access and all that On House games became obsolete. People were already logging in regularly for the subscription. Kinda sad to see it go but I didn't care about most games they gave out so I'm fine with it.

I swear they offered Peggle every other month, sometimes back to back. There were some good games over the years, but let's be honest, it was lack-luster given EA's full library of content.
