There IS a difference between jigs.

The purpose of the plastic is to prevent user from destroying their Joy-Con slots.
I'm speaking of 1/10 of a millimeter precision.
The plastic should be made that way so the wire should only touch the pins.
If it is too short, than there will be no short circuit at all. If it is too long than the wire can wear off the pins over time and ultimately destroy them.

The wire should not cut and should not wear off Joy-Con slot pins. Which means it should be curved at the same angle as pins are.
Also it should be made of soft metal like cooper or ideally it should be gold plated.
I have seen many jigs that use straight steel wire, this is good example how not to make jig.
i see.
but none of them i have seen used soft metal.

I bought a cheap jig on eBay. Couldn't get it to work no matter how I fiddled with the wire (even went to the trouble of getting the correct gauge copper wire). Aluminum foil (applied to the joycon) OTOH works the first time every time.

I'm on the lookout for a for-parts broken cheap joycon I can turn into a jig I won't have to worry about using every time (so I can ditch autoRCM). Or eventually hopefully jig of that standard will start showing up on AliE, likely after the first joycon clones show up.

Edit -- Actually it looks like the replacement part can be bought - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/L-R-Slider-...ntendo-Switch-Controller-Joy-Con/132664380072 . I had thought only replacement rails were available. I'm not sure if you could get two jigs out of the set or only one (are the contacts symmetrical, such that a left joycon slider would also work?)

It certainly seems like the contacts and rails are symmetrical. Only difference is SL/SR buttons and orientation.

just watch youtube for joycon + tinfoil technique. it always works and is super simple.
you can glue some tinfoil to a piece of thin plastic and insert with joycon, then install auto rcm and you won't need to short / jig anymore at all.

The jig has arrived (red one). In a meantime I bought TX's jig (black one).
This jig looks and feels a lot more tender and easier on Joy-Con slot compared to TX's jig.
Although the click sound can also be heard when inserting red jig, it sounds a lot more tender than inserting TX's jig.

Why do you think the joycon mod is less expensive then a jig ? It is literally screwing a couple of screws out with a screwdriver you can get for a dollar/euro.

Enjoy moding your Joy-Con. This thread is about jigs.
If you read properly the first post he made wait let me copy paste what he said.
''Hi guys,
As I am about to use CWF on my Switch, I have been looking for a RCM jig lately.
I know that the safest option is Joy-Con mod, but currently this is not really the way I could go (unemployed at the moment).''

And that's why I made that comment

Yes, spare Joy-Con, not daily driver Joy-Con.

you didn't specify that. Plus don't get why people use a spare joy con for that. Just soldered 9 to 10 wich is a 1 second job and so easy to do and you can easily start the switch in RCM or in not RCM mode with that and not damage the pins the at all

I can not know if using permanent mod on a long run can damage hardware. Also Nintendo can push update to detect that behavior and brick such devices on purpose.

So once again, in this thread we discuss jigs, not hardware mods. If you want to discuss what is the best way to boot into RCM or which is the best hardware mod, go to another thread or make a new one. Thank you.

Nintendo can just as much detect you using RCM with a jig as they can detect using a Joycon mod plus you can only use your switch offline anyway so why even go online using RCM ? But i'll leave you be seeing you adjusted your post, just wanted to give my 2 cents that the original claim you made a joycon mod costing more then a jig well is incorrect. That's all
