I was wondering if I could use something like this to send payloads from my Android phone to Switch
yes, assuming you already have a type c to type a cable to complete the connection and your phone supports OTG, you can also just get a type c to type c cable so you won't need to join two different cables together.

These also work.
More expensive but they are 5 in the package.
this looks like a much better deal but needs micro usb cable, chances are like 99% op have some lying around so shouldn't be a problem

EDIT: actually no, he would need like a usb c to micro usb cable or something like that D:

Quick question that nobody has asked yet... is your phone a micro-usb or usb-c? If your phone is micro-usb, you will need a micro-OTG cable. The OTG part is very important.

Ah yeah I forgot to mention this.
I only use android phones, so I have countless of them lying around.

Also the specific product I linked is not an OTG adapter. What I have is the same, but with OTG.

So forget this option. They are more expensive. :/

I bought a usb-c to micro-usb otg cble from amazon, it wouodnt work to send payload to the switch.

My other a to c and micro-usb otg cable works just fine with my moto g5+
