Posting proof that appearance mods work. Also, ripping characters and replacing them works too (appearance) but their movesets are still stuck as the character you replaced. Meaning once we extract an x2m file we could (probably) rename all the files to the name of a character and it would show up ingame only appearance not movesets.
i used the ssj4 body from goku ssj4 (i forgot there's a ssj4 outfit in game) and replaced it over raditz' clothes. also added ssj4 hair mod

renamed ssj4 goku files to towa's and it replaced the model

also i tried to put a new soundtrack in (this time in data2) and it was an infinite load screen @ the nintendo logo. i havent tried data1 so it could still work.

got any details on how to get this stuff working? I tried repacking mods into data1.cpk but none of them worked

so far all i know is that cac mods work and char replacement.
for cac files would be like data1root>data>chara>HUM>in folder place mods here (example would be the hair mod in my screenshot)
char replacement would be like for example, replacing towa with goku,
data1root>data>chara>TOW>Renamed GOK files with TOW in that folder

unfortunately my reverse engineering knowledge only goes so far. game files between the Switch and PC versions will have to be examined and then changes will have to be made to the source of the modding tools above and then a fork of them will have to be compiled for the Switch version. I compared game data between versions in a hex editor and it is indeed possible because the files still have lots of similarities and are not encrypted. Unfortunately I don't know how to edit the source of any of these tools, but this research should at least get anyone who does and is willing to contribute started.

and I guess the reason only cosmetic mods work without changing them between versions is the same reason cosmetic mods work in Skyrim and not anything else.

I'm trying but never load new char, my path is: "/titles/xenover_ID/Romfs/Data/chara/CHARA_ID_MODS", something wrong?

Apparently. Most mods don't work on the latest update/Digital Download version.
I have a cart with 1.07.0 on it. So thats what i know has worked for me so far. Once i decide to get brave and update it i will go that route.

So I can download a mod that adds new transformations? There's 0 limitation unlike skyrim modding on switch?

So if you have the latest update no mods will work at all? Cuz I been trying to add the tail animation but the game just freezes for me

I think mods don't works with last update and DLC because it has updated files like the ones for zsouls. We can fix this if we can extract the updated files from NAX0. Played around on last update and buyed DLC's and replaced characters works (tested on SX OS ver 1.3). Eventualy managed to get max zeni with ZSOUL-TOOL and lvl 80 with some mod. I lost my save file because it only works with last update.

so extracting item_talisman.idb from the latest update and editing it does indeed work then?

If it works with 1.07, why not 1.09 to. Tested 1.09.01 files grabbed from pc version. On switch it goes in game but there's no added/modified soul in Item Shop

you have to grab files from the Switch game update not the PC version. of course the PC version files won't work.

There's no tool to extract 00 from nca folder. Gonna try something with idb and msg files. Maybe swapping different files from the switch and pc will work.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

This is my save file with max zeni, lvl80 and small progress.

This is pretty cool! I might get xenoverse 2 & try this, I wish i knew how to really mod & stuff like that. So i can add my OC (Original character) aka my dbz persona into this game. Over beerus as a skin mod. Would be cool.

Further proof of this working
Character does have nipples lol I just censored in case not allowed.
I got other mods working such as this SSJ3. I'm also on latest update if that matters

does this work if you own the game legally?

also is tutorial in OP all you need to mod?

It works if you own the game either way.

You need just the stuff in the op to mod.
I can't update because i have been offline since i modded my switch so until i get another that i can use as my update mule i am out of luck on
updating the tutorial for the newer stuff.

I've got a transformation mod working. Not a massive one but it changes the final transformqttra for SSJ3.
