It's pissing me off that after all these years Sony never added an option to turn it off completely (like you can on PC, using DS4Windows, for example). It drains the battery unnecessarily and during the summer it's the ultimate mosquito magnet!

There has to be a config file or something like that.

But has anyone tested battery life with/without the LED?

It might not be worth it at all

Apparently yes, 1st gen PS4 pads (from of phats) last upto 4hrs max regardless: shit battery.

The newer pads with light bar on front, has better battery life upto 6hrs apparently, but with led unplugged up to 12.

Back when I first got my PS4 I complained about not being able to turn the LED off and it being a battery drain and people poopooed that notion claiming it was the touch pad that really caused so much drain and the shit battery time. I dunno if true, but I also dunno how NIntendo can get 40-80 hrs charge life on their pro controllers but Sony can only manage 4-5 on the dualshock/sixaxis controllers... It's madness!

There is no logical reason to have an led on 24/7.

It’s all aesthetic, but it also rinses the battery and the turn over of selling extra pads must be faster at Sony than Nintendo meaning more profit for them.

I don't really want to physically disable the LED, since it's useful to know when the controller is done recharging, or when the battery is low (DS4Windows flashes it in red). And maybe for warranty purposes, as well, in case the PS4 breaks within then next 1.5 years.

I was really hoping for a software solution. God damn it, Sony!

scePadSetLightBar() @ libScePad.sprx

the api prohibits it,
error 0x80920006 will be returned when trying to set the rgb value to make the light bar appear off.
