Hi, i'm on 3.0.2 and have homebrew channel installed. I want to access eshop to download a free donor title but get a message saying I need to update. From reading on here , it seems 4.1.0 is the last safe update. Is there a way to manually update to that fw only?

So I have an sx pro is there any reason to stay on 4.1 now or should I just update my system so I can update all my games? It seems like everything works fine on 5.1 and most homebrew stuff is being made for 5.1.

in regards to error logs, i know we currently can only wipe everything away, which is probably telling nintendo that you messed around when they got an error report with som information and later get one without any.
so, can we like backup the current error log and instead of wiping it all, wipe and put the old log back?
of course, thats only useful for people who haven't gotten any illegitimate errors already

Follow this guide:https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/
It may look long and daunting but that is because it is very noob-friendly and details every step to reduce user error.

So I have an sx pro is there any reason to stay on 4.1 now or should I just update my system so I can update all my games? It seems like everything works fine on 5.1 and most homebrew stuff is being made for 5.1.
4.1 will have access to a warmboot softmod that will load Atmosphere in the future. However, there is no telling if there will be a way to load SX OS/Pro with this exploit. If you want to update to 5.1 with the option to return to 4.1 if you change your mind, you can follow this tutorial: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/

So I'll be getting a switch soon and l'll try to find a low FW.But probably I'll get BOTW too. Is there a way to update the game if not on the latest FW?
There are 2 ways. The first involves a second Switch with this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/match-v...going-online-on-cfw-need-two-switches.509395/
The other way uses the leaked DevMenu app to install game updates that have been dumped on the Internet. Neither of which you will find here.

in regards to error logs, i know we currently can only wipe everything away, which is probably telling nintendo that you messed around when they got an error report with som information and later get one without any.

The only tool we have to manipulate error logs is nx-dreport. This sounds more like a suggestion than a question so you can ask in the Emulators subforum for this type of homebrew. It should also be worth noting that running nx-dreport on 5.X is not as safe as other firmwares due to the Switch keeping track of error logs being wiped.

I have a third party Switch dock and used it for 5 minutes with no problems.

Is it safe now? Im on the latest Switch version.
Safe in regards to what? If you mean being bricked, this is actually not a firmware specific problem but rather how third-party docks are manufactured with respect to the Switch's USB-C port. It would be safer to not use third-party docks if possible if you are worried about bricks.

Hi guys!
I have some troubles with my Switch :S

I'm on 4.1 and I want to update to the last firmware but I can't :S
It appears on the screen an error, the number 2002-0030, this error is meant to be a lack of storage to download the update, but it isn't true, because the Switch haves 17.5 on the internal, and 105 on the SD.
So, my question it's:
It's there any option to update the Switch?
Can I export my saves and import on other Switch? (This comes maybe if the support send me a new Switch)

Thank's you in advice! (And sorry for my bad english :S)

You can export your saves with various homebrew tools available. Some names to list include EdiZon, Checkpoint, and Y'allAreNUTS. However, if you still want to try updating the Switch offline, you can try with this method: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...unofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461

@Najask I posted what fixed mine on the other thread hopefully it works for you.

"I fixed this by formating keeping save data, now as soon as it's done formatting boot into recovery mode, don't even setup a main account, it should let you update from recovery mode."

Dumb question but how does SX OS manage the saves ?
If I remove a game from my sdcard (or copy it to my computer to save it) will I still get my saves ?

SX OS doesn't manage saves. SX OS emulates games as cartridges to be used by the Switch so saves are handled the way the Switch normally handles them. It might be a better idea to use a save dumper (see my above post for examples) than copying files from your SD card onto your computer.

Basically what Draxzelex said above. To directly answer your question, your saves won't be deleted if you remove your sdcard containing the dumps. The saves are still stored inside your Switch's storage. But I would advise you to delete the dump icon as well as the save data before you remove the xci file from the SD card.

Quick question for those that are banned or know. I understand you are banned from "Online" play, but can you still play in "LAN" mode with friends/family? IE: Mario Kart has the option to play local multiplayer if you hold L+R then click Left Stick.

This is the only thing stopping me from diving in and digitizing my library. Thanks so much!

So I bought an executer pro today from a uk site. I am just wondering, I currently have a 128gb card with some game purchases on it, but they could all fit into a 32gb card. I would like to make backups of all my carts so I have no need to take the carts with me. I'll be using the switch with xecuter offline only. I'm just wondering if it is advised to keep these purchased games on a separate sd card, and only insert the 128gb sdcard with my backups when in the CFW?

Just wondering if the official firmware does a scan of the sdcard and it's contents, thus having 2 separate cards should in theory limit being banned if that is the case?

Hey I am really late to all this, I ordered a unopened switch off ebay at 3.0.0 I would like to be able to play back ups and saw that xecuter had a cfw that lets you but I also read that there is a issue with large sd cards on older firmware like mine, has a work around been found yet? I am hoping to use a 256gb micro sd card to hold all my homebrew and backups but I'm not sure how to make that happen because I read alot of people saying dont update from 3.0.0. is there a correct set by set process availible for a fresh system at this point and current firmware nintendo is pushing? whats my best option? thanks for any help. if the answer is already here i didnt go through all 100 pages so my bad but thank you if it is.

small side note I tried to order the pro dongle from a couple websites and they gave me the run around
telling me my cards were not working and that they wanted wire transfers but wouldnt give me any where to wire to then saying i should pay with pay pal. is the whole dongle thing legit or as shady as it feels?

Console bans restrict the ability to play games online and access the eShop. That is because both of these services require accessing Nintendo's servers where they can restrict access. Local play doesn't involve connecting to Nintendo's servers so it will work. Now if Nintendo was really evil, they could restrict online play for banned consoles but that would seem like overkill. Haven't seen anybody test this (mostly because you need 2 Switches) but it should work in theory.

Hello guys, can someone explain how to make backup of my system? As far as I know I need to install hekate and in the tools menu I can do a backup, is that correct? And how can I use that backup after?
Yes, however there are currently no safe ways to restore it. With CTCaer's v3 mod of Hekate, there are way to restore it but he does not recommend restoring it this way. However, don't let this fear of being unable to restore if stop you from making a backup. Switches have been bricked and users have restored their NAND successfully afterwards. Its just that restoring the NAND so far requires the expertise of a developer who is more familiar with the Switch.

There is a CFW in progress by the name of Atmosphere and via Hekate, people have been loading WIP Atmosphere to do various things from running various homebrew to running game mods.

i bought the SX OS, but choose to buy the SX pro too for the dongle. will i be able to give away my "old" SX os license? or is it bound to my switch for ever?
Once the license is activated to a console, it is tied to that console forever. The dongle works the same way;it can only be used to play backups on the console it is tied to, but it can be used to load SX OS on any Switch.

  1. The reason not to update from 3.0 is the ability to load hacks/homebrew/CFW without the need for a jig and USB cable. If you don't mind having to use a jig and USB cable or keeping your console in sleep mode, you can just update. The reason is the exploit is lost when the console is turned off so if you keep it in sleep mode, you can just boot the exploit via jig and USB cable once.
  2. The problems I have seen with larger SD cards seem to be fakes so advise caution when purchasing. There are tools you can use online to test if an SD card is fake or not such as h2testw.
  3. This type of business is shady because the legality of the product is questionable. They don't do direct PayPal transactions since PayPal tries to not be associated with piracy. Always exercise your best judgement when trying to buy these types of devices.

The difference between 3.0.2 and 4.1 in terms of future exploits is not known at this point so they are considered identical otherwise. However, if you update to 4.1 and wish to go back to 3.0.2 in the future, you will lose the ability to play cartridges on firmwares below 4.0. There is a game cart update on 4.0 that we cannot block currently so it is advised to wait until this can be prevented from being applied unless you cannot wait to update yourself.
