yes but from lower then 3.0.0 no fuse pass 4.X.X will make your card slot not work anymore when you downgrade back to 3.0.0

Once in some system updates your switch burns an efuse.
An efuse is a tiny microscopic fuse that intended to change the operation of a device in real time, that means, that when an efuse is burnt, you cannot go back to an older version, which requires less burnt efuses to boot.
Your efuses are inside the cpu.
TL;DR its an anti-downgrade measurement to keep your device up to date.

I don't recommend updating at all, as 1.0.0-3.0.0 firmwares will enjoy coldboot (cfw when you turn on the device) in the future.
If you don't mind using a jig each time you want to boot to cfw, you can update, but if you can't enter rcm with your current jig it doesn't mean that you should update.

I intend to be fully transparent about this shit, especially going forwards. At present, I'm not aware of any non-RCM means of getting code execution from coldboot. To the best of my knowledge, nobody else is, either.

ok thats good I like bootable cfw. I won't be upgrading then. Just hope the SX pro jig does work for me so I can finally have cfw/homebrew/a hackable Switch

Their jig appears to be high quality so I will honestly be surprised if it doesn't have a 100% success rate.

yep exactly what I thought and why I decided to buy it. It seems the best quality one I've seen so far and don't want to hassle taking mine apart reajusting my jig to getit to work. Guess i wasted $3 for nothing.

Sounds like a stupid move to me.
Upgrading pass 3.0.0 is not advised
Best thing to do is wait it out. You can install homebrew all you want on the firmware your currently on

I understand coldboot will be a reality sooner on 4.1.0 and below but is coldboot really such a big deal? When you get down to it, it's a matter of pressing a button vs inserting a cable or dongle. Won't coldboot require you to use emuNAND if you want to update? For the money you'll spend on a 64GB MicroSD (to use emuNAND) you could almost buy SX Pro. Backing up and restoring the NAND is possible so emuNAND won't be needed for brick protection. What do you anticipate the advantages of emuNAND will be? My Switch never leaves the house. The dock is right next to my HTPC which is running TegraRcmSmashGUI. Taking it out of the dock and briefly connecting the USB cable seems a lot more convenient than messing with emuNAND or completing a 97 step process to preserve the eFuses. What am I missing? Why should I have stayed on 3.0.0 given my use case?

Edit: Read the SciresM msg. Sounds like a coldboot exploit isn't coming for >1.0.0 for a long time, if ever. It would be nice to have warmboot as an option but I don't think I'd ever use it. Using autoRCM + injecting a payload is easier and faster. Only downside is you need a device to send the payload. Even if portability was a concern, you pretty much need to use a case for the Switch so throwing in a small type C to type C cable (for an Android phone) or a dongle would be no biggie.

Fair enough, but my suggestion is still a valid one for someone else who has the same question and isn't scared to use a jig.
