Sorry if this is obvious or has been asked before, but I'm not updated on switch scene. I thought there was only homebrew for 3.0.0, but reading a bit I noticed that some homebrews work on 5.x.x. So I'm quite confused. Should I update to 5.1.0? I'm on 4.1.0 now.

Thanks! Is there any risk of ban?
Hacking always comes with the risk of a ban since it's an unauthorized modification of your system. Therefore, I'd suggest you to keep your switch completely offline for now until we know more about what's safe and what isn't.

If you got exFat on time, 4.1.0 is the new 'holy grail' with video capture, exFat, and a softmod that's said to be coming in the future.

Found these comments on Reddit.

As someone who does know what he's talking about (I wrote the write-up on the early model vulnerability he mentions), all Switches up through System Version 3.0.2 will be softmoddable -- and those interested in softmodding on 4.1.0 should not update to any newer firmwares, because in the long run those will be supported too."

Hello, please link me to video of a Switch softmodded on newer firmware thank you."

I hope that you find this sufficient:

I am extremely confident I understand TrustZone's attack surface. When I say I can't think of any mechanism, I mean that any TrustZone bug affecting 3.0.1 will necessarily affect 4.1.0, because I understand the set of patches between those versions."

As far as bans go, I've been able to run emulators without a problem, just make sure to use nx-dreport to delete any error logs.

As far as I know the only bans that have currently been given out have either been for pirating (using LayeredFS or SX OS), cheats / mods (using LayeredFS), or using your Switch's certificate to access Nintendo's CDN and do things you shouldn't do.

There's no guarantee that you won't get banned, but for me the ban risk is worth it if you're just running homebrew.
