Hacking extFAT via Fat32? Any difference regarding performance?

Hey,

I am thinking whether to do all the work to install the exFAT driver on my switch. But my question is: is it worth it?

My Card is 256GB, and there are some
ways to format it to fat32.

Will the format harm the performance or even my switch/sdcard?

If the only “disadvantage” is that I cannot save more than 4GB files I would just let it be

For switch backups it takes around 30m with exfat while it takes a hour for fat 32

I see. Is there a way to dump cartridges on 4.1.0? I gotta dump Kirby for the exFAT driver. Or maybe a workaround for that?


Also I don’t know why Nintendo made it a patch. Why isn’t that enabled by default lol

Is it true that you need to connect to the internet momentarily just to get the exfat patch? I'll be using exfat myself, I don't feel like splitting all the xci files. Way too many writes on my PC's HDD. From extracting, to deleting rars, to trimming and deleting the old file, to splitting and deleting the old file. My HDD is going to die by the time I'm done with this process.

you need to connect and you will be updated to latest firmware.

License costs. By not enabling it by default, N saves a few cents per unit and with 100M lifetimes sales a good load of money.

Most people don’t need exfat support. They are fine with the 32gb internal storage (which I am too with my main unit).

No difference that I'm aware of, just takes an extra minute to split 4gb+ files before transfer. FFSJ works great for this.

Will Hekate and all the emulators work on exfat? I am thinking about reformating it to exfat...
