Hear me out please. I know that there are a lot of threads asking for support starting games where the update data was deleted from the sd card but this is slightly different.

I know that the info isn't stored in the save file because I've deleted that.
I know that it isn't on the sd card because I've deleted these files too (once with the update and once without any updates)

Now my question is: Where is that info stored? Do we know about a database of some kind and where it's located?

The update is embedded with the game in the cart, as the keys used to play the game aren't in a lower firmware version (package1 is used iirc), it asks to update.
For the eShop games, it's almost the same thing but the update process is managed by the eShop itself.

But there is no rewritable sector on the cartridge? let me try to explain my question better.

1. MK8 worked on 4.0.1 and was updated
2. MK8 doesn't work anymore after deleting that update from the sd.
3. MK8 still doesen't work after deleting all traces from the Switch.
It's not the update file I'm looking for but the file where the info that prevents the game from launching is stored. It has to be somewhere, it wasn't there the first time the game booted.

There has to be a file where that info is stored and I want to know where that file is.

Ok got it, you're talking about game updates made on the Switch. Then I don't know because I haven't messed up with my NAND backup but yeah most likely something remains on the user space (not SD) so you can't delete it unless you factory reset your Switch. Have you tried to explore your NAND with HacDiskMount ?

Yeah, I looked at my nand backup but I didn't dig that deep yet admittedly. I thought that since we can add the exfat driver to the nand it should be possible to add other files (updates) or edit said file. If it's in some from of readable database.
