It won't let me use my 128GB mSD card unless I update
You can use it by formating it to FAT32.

I also mentioned that Nag after messing around with my SD-Card, so i lost all DLC and updates for my Zelda cartridge.
The Save on the console relies to a higher Game version and the systems wants to have updates....

Solution was a full factory reset.

if i have a switch that's never once connected to the internet am i fine? or still needs airplane mode?

If you want to stay on your firmware-Version:

  • Never establish a network connection (i.e. connect to your WIFI)
  • Do not update the System with the firmware Update provided from Game-Cartridges

So... you're telling me that in order to avoid getting an update nag that doesn't let me go online... I shouldn't go online?

If I remember correctly this has nothing to do with nintendo flipping a switch remotely to the console.
It just updates the online services (server-side) to reject old fw versions after a period of time. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

And this is happening since the 3.0.0 update, if I remember correctly.

So there's nothing you can do. You are just barred until updating.

EDIT:
And if you want to play online, just deal with it and update (if you are 4.x, otherwise wait patiently).
And do whatever you want with a handy jig and a special usb dongle (or android phone, or pc)

Is the HBL DNS for 3.0.0 updated to block the nag? I’ve had it on airplane mode since, and I haven’t heard anyone talking about it...

Have switch with airplane mode and erased wi-fi's since reswitched said fw4.1.0 was getting stuff soonTM

I turned off airplane mode and removed dns blocking today to see if I could update my games. I got a message saying I have to update my console first but I could turn dns back on and airplane mode of course and I see nothing of the "super nag." I launch games like before without any ask for an update. This is on my 4.1.0 - the only thing I changed was turning "send error reports to Nintendo" OFF. So....what happened here? Does it only occur when you try to enter the e-shop or check the latest news or what?

Isn't this just a browser update nag? Why couldn't it be called that instead of "super"? It's got me thinking of Street Fighter

Basically Nintendo is sending informations to internet connected Switches, this information changes a value from 0 to 1 which blocks any online activity unless you update. It's currently unknown from what ip Nintendo is sending these packets, this is why airplane mode is recommended.
thank god my 2 babies are safe in their boxes. hell yeah baby
