Hello,

Is it at all possible to hack my wii to somehow get Amazon Instant Video on it?

I'm using version 21 of the Wii Shop channel. Unfortunately, I just found another thread saying that Amazon Video was removed from the Wii Shop Channel. I would link this but I can't as a new member.

When I load the wii Shop channel page, it shows things like "The Skyward Sword Save Data Update Channel, Wii U Transfer Tool, and Netflix" but unfortunately no Amazon. I appreciate you taking the time.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry I totally forgot about this. Let me check if the Wii lets me copy the channel to an SD card in case your wii isnt softmodded and you don't want to mod it. But if I can't copy it then you will have to mod it.

Will send more, watch you P.M.s

I actually forgot this was a thing until I saw this thread!
I have my Wii setup as an entertainment system in my car (because no one likes DVDs anymore anyway- LOL), and I've been using it to play games and videos off USB media. I thought about using the YouTube app with my phone's data connection to stream content on road trips if we get bored of what we have, but I then found out the YouTube app had been killed off a while back.
I totally forgot about Netflix and Amazon Video! Are those still working? Can you just get them from the Nintendo Store channel, or do you need to sideload them now? This could be a great addition to my setup!

Netflix is still in the shop, Amazon and hulu need to be installed with a wad manager. Not sure why they got taken off. I have never thought of using Wii in the car, neat idea. Kinda curious how your setup looks.

When I'm finished I'm going to make a video walking through it. Its a Honda Odyssey with rear entertainment package, so there's already a screen with wireless headphones option in the back. I just used the aux video inputs to feed my wii, which is hidden under the third row of seats in a plastic shield (all cables and adapters are zip tied so it is easy to remove). I customized a version of WiiFlow to make it car-friendly and remove the need for any pointing (I technically have a sensor bar built into the car, since the headphones use IR LEDs which are emitted from the left and right of display, but the experience of using a pointer in a moving vehicle was less than ideal in our experience. Button mashing only!). I have a menu for movies and a menu for games, which include some retro titles using snes and genesis, as well as some wii backup games like Mario Kart, Brawl, DKC, etc, which work nicely without any pointing. Having the option to use my phone's data and play Netflix/Amazon/etc would be some super sweet icing on this cake!

...oh yeah, and I wired up a secondary screen in the front. Its a crazy fun project for me!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

...wait, so where can I find the amazon video wad to install? I actually use that more than NEtflix anyway.

Wow. Road trips sound like something to look forward to with that setup. Yeah having streaming options along with your movie library will be great. Maybe watch a series while on the road. Sounds super cool. I might be in the minority but I still prefer the Wii version of Netflix to the current version in all devices. It's less flashy, and straight forward. I recently softmodded a Wii for a friend and Netflix would return an error I've never encountered and couldn't find good info on. I called Nintendo for info and also asked if people call their support for Netflix questions. They said their support get loads calls daily about Netflix on the OG Wii. I was curious. Anyway sounds like a neat project.
