fusee gelee isn't the only found exploit in the bootrom. ScriesM was hinting at one in the standard boot, so you won't even need to ground the pins every time.

I doubt we will see another exploit released any time soon, in case it would be of use hacking mariko. I believe you will want to store a launch mariko.....



Some people are interested in the intricacy of allowing piracy and the notoriety that comes with it. These might not be the twitter hackers you know about though, or they might not admit it because of the threat of contributory copyright infringement.

Some pirates are only interested in digital preservation, there are hackers who are privately involved in that.

It will be nice if they miss any other vulns in their but you can be damn sure Nvidia are probably having the mother of all code reviews at the moment over that code..

You're right their will be other ways this is / was probably the most obvious one by the sounds of things.
 
You have a misconception of cycles with Li-Ion batteries.
Better to leave it discharge of 10% and full charge it than risking to let it discharge to 0%, where you have a lot of chance it won't boot anymore, because the battery won't accept the charge.
The "article" I quoted before (which is more a study than an article) is totally right, you'll get more cycles by doing small charges than letting the battery completely discharge before charging it again.
Li-Ion batteries are very sensible and full charges (with associated heat) destroy them quicker than anything else. Period.
That is where you were wrong.

Actually nowadays they just say on all brands, don't worry the batteries are better and they do 500 cycles min no matter what you do, just charge when the phone say and if you need to remove don't worry they dont have memory effect like old batteries... Then a year or 2 later the devices has like half the charge already with around 300+ cycles not even close to the 500...

Quick charging is the biggest problem in heat production on them, slow charge they must not heat up that much and in fact your phone heat will probably affect it more constantly than the battery temp while charging normally without fast charge on a good battery well design for the needed charge rate. My Nvidia Shield tablet 4 example while charging is barely warm, but when a game is running it melts completely, the tablet tegra produce a huge amount of heat and off course the high discharge rate wont also be good for the battery making it also heat more, but nothing to do here to fix it unless adding custom cooling mods or just don't play any game ;)

A bad Li-ion like those exploding ones are mostly batteries that can't meet the high discharge and charge rate of the device or have defects...

And about charging them they should not be constantly discharged completely or stored with no battery, but usually doing like a one month full discharge will also help calibrate the device. And about fully charging them is only a problem on devices that have bad battery control, they have a safe top limit voltage and that all depends on the device, a good device will fully charge the li-ion but not going over the safe full charge voltage, while a bad device might go beyond it... thats even more a charger thing than the battery it self. A good microprocessor charger will always fully charge the Li-ion to the right safe voltage or its internal controller might also do it.

ps: All my friends including my brother and my girlfriend kill their good brand Li-ions in 1 or 2 years exactly by being constantly disconnecting and connecting to power a lot of times per day and since I keep seeing modern recent good brand li-ions like that in my opinion they are not half as bad as old ones, but they still get "addicted" easily

leads to piracy, not focused on piracy. Real CFW is not about piracy, it's about unlocking the full potential of a device and allowing it to be customized to do whatever the user wants. Both B9S and Sky3DS enabled piracy, however they couldn't be FARTHER from eachother in terms of potential

The majority of 3DS homebrew are emulators which run pirated software and so does B9S. Don't go around fooling yourself. The actual homebrew authors all have moved on to "open" systems like Android. Hiding behind homebrew is getting old.

Yes they should, like any type... Nicd is the only one I know that can be stored with no charge in them, but they are just no match for the current LSD Nimh.

But I think ~Benjay misunderstood me as I never said to fully discharge the li-ion... they should be charged at like 10% battery so they won't ever get fully discharged (a fully discharged to 0% should be done only for device battery calibration purpose only like once every month to keep having correct battery info).

However its still not good to stay all day charging and discharging any of them without ever doing full cycles (its fine to do a few times, but not over-do it)... PB is the safest battery for that, but if it also discharge a lot its a bye bye battery.

Anyway I hate all batteries... Because when you have like a hundred of them you just leave them without charging for years and they just keep dying, I'm still to see a battery that I could charge and leave it discharged 4 ever with no problems ;)


ps: I never even got much technical because each person has their opinion... Anyway yeah enough of batteries :whip:

What about the King Kong Shader Exploit.
I said once, and that is that exploit. But it's old, and your unlikely to find any xbox 360 on the required dash, plus it's on a phat console. The ones that red ring. and ever since then, there has never been another attempt at a software exploit or a publicly released one.

You should never discharge a lithium ion. The current necessary to charge increases exponentially and the battery will refuse to charge for safety reasons.

Kate's Bootrom Exploit Paired with Fusee still requires a PC to launch the payload, and the shorting every time the console reboots/power cycles making it a tethered exploit.

I could be wrong as I have not had confirmation yet from Team Xecuter, but being a long time beta tester (since the 90's) for them, I think its pretty safe to assume that the modchip itself will send the payload through a button cominbation or on/off switch of some sort which will enable it at will to boot from the SD card or extra NAND if thats the route they took. Therefor no computer required. Much better solution IMO.

Don't really need a modchip, just a USB device that plugs into the USB-C port to inject the payload once the Switch is in the correct mode.

This is why ATM a pi zero configured to run the load on boot would work a treat. Cheap and easily setup. I'll upload a setup script to GitHub once I've finished it I'm working on this now.

wouldn't a processor capable of running a full blown desktop operating system be overkill? why not a cheap microcontroller like an stm32 or an atmega328p (the one in the arduino)?
 
This is the most competitive the hacking scene has ever been. Seems like each team is out to cut the throats of the others. There's constant little sad squabbles on Twitter.

The TX modchip is a good thing purely because it pushes the other teams do keep working so they don't fall behind. Plus, having basically a single team ruling a system was super toxic for the 3DS scene for a long while.

Yeah maybe! But a zero costs 8 quid and has the usb transfer limits proved on it so it'll work with minimal fuss and maximum support

Not really. This solution is free, and is only tethered for the temporary future. Soon, those on 1.0-3.0 will require no hardware solution, and a little after that 3.0.1-4.1.0 will be the same. 5.0 and above will require the jig for exploit installation, but will be untethered after install. In reality, nothing is ready for the end user, and any public implementation of cfw is currently scheduled for june 15th or sooner if it happens. Unless you are running linux, then theres no real reason to use this. I don't agree with the need of a possibly expensive modchip, when you can spend a buck or so on a jig, or just use a safety pin to bend a pin.

Hmm...so because it's been out for all of a day and it's currently a tethered exploit (which not a whole ton end user wise can really be done with anyways right now) we should all jump to a modchip immediately? Yeah, sorry. That's not how it works. Wait for some end user friendly stuff first. By then I'm willing to bet that we'll have something worked out to get the exploit to stick a little more permanently.
 
Let's not be gbatemp for once and not over speculate. Unfortunately I feel this has put more pressure on the atmosphere development. 2 days ago they had 2 months to complete. How they have the same but with a community nipping at their heels. Let's see what happens. It's all fun and end of the day it's happy days!
