Hacking Convert .sav to playable Citra save?

If I provide someone with a .sav file can they convert into a “main” file that I can use on Citra?

Just rename the file to main and take off the .sav extension. Does that work?

depends on which kind of .sav it is.
gw? or the one from sd card "Nintendo3DS" folder.

I have a NDS Adapter. I just put my game cart into it, plug it into computer & it provides me a .sav file

so 3ds cartridge?
setup cfw on your o3ds first.
and go through this https://github.com/citra-emu/citra/wiki/Dumping-Save-Data-from-a-3DS-Console

the adapter works for save backup ONLY. the extracted file is not the raw save data that used in citra.
