No, that would be legal provided it's intended for people with legit copies of both Gen and XX. However, it's not as simple as a copy paste, so most people would mess up their files badly...

Yeah but then can just re-dump and try again?

I mean even rudimentary translation that sounds like an orc is better than not understanding anything at all. For example

translating to "Different dish give different skills" would be infinitely better than literally looking at equivalent of "??????????????????????"

or this https://i.imgur.com/O7CNyYw.png to say "I make armor from materials"

or something like that. Still better than "??????????"

How can I learn more about adding translations to the patch?

DLC quests are still in japanese..
They came out after the patch, but none of them are hard to understand. You can either tell by the monster icon or, for Elder Dragons, from the location of the quest, so it's not too serious a thing. Would be nice to translate them though.

It's simple if you do them at least once. The only things you can't really tell without knowing Japanese are the Elder Dragons and you can tell those from location. For example, if you see Castle Schrade, it's either Fatalis or White Fatalis (White Fatalis is ALWAYS after Fatalis and Crimson Fatalis in the quest lists), if you see it's the Sanctuary, it's Shagaru Magala, etc.. You will get the hang of it before hitting G-rank if you started the game from HR1.

What tool should be used to unpack/repack .arc files if I want to do the merging myself? (would i need to remerge if i use Luma to load it the same way directions in OP state) ?

Does seem like a way around the matter but at the same time seems like a pain, I believe the team behind Great Ace Attorney have you grab the font from the English Release of a previous another AA game during the patching process since they can't legally distribute it.

I had thought about trying to write something that would do this but I'm lazy and inevitably that patch would end up online without most going through those steps and then no doubt this patch would get associated with it due to splash screens and such unless removed and well just seems like a huge hassle for the original team.

I'm not sure if it would be associated with it outright, seeing as a text translation of this sort would be coming out months after this patch, and I doubt most online sites are going to recirculate a newer update for a game that's nearly a year old and has not been patched in what's seen like ages in internet time.

I would only imagine such a procedure to be complicated. For example, would you need a physical cart? What version of the game would count? That sort of thing.

Um currently using luma patch to play XX but I get stuck in the 3ds loading screen whenever I try to start it up... am I doing something wrong?

Are you also using any plugins with it, either via Luma or NTR? If so, that's the problem.

Can you make a vidrv on how to apply the patch?
Can you follow literally two steps of instructions?:P Seriously, a video? What for? Literally just extract and copy paste!

*snip*
Too hard to follow?

From OP:
- Download patch files from here
- Copy the folder "luma" onto the root of your SD card merging the contents.
- run MHXX

Are there any sites you would recommend

Seriously, if the Luma patch method doesn't work for you, just search the 1.2 Update+English Patch v4 cia from that ISO site and install it using FBI.
Not even real need to go on that site, I have it uploaded on youtube and other sites myself too and they all come up as the first results:P
