So I'm following the newb guide step by step when I get here
For Wii U Firmware 5.5.1 only (5.5.2 users skip to step 3): On your Wii U open the browser and visit this page: loadiine.ovh. When the page loads make sure that the dropdown box says "Homebrew Launcher 1.4 (5.5.0 - 5.5.1)" and click "submit".

I do this and I get FSOpenFile failed.

Ive double checked my files, I formatted the card properly but no good...

What does your SD card structure look like? The problem is on the SD. The exploit is launching normally but it can't find the data on SD

Put everything on a 2GB card and it worked! That should be in the guide...

Cant fat32 format a 64GB card... too big.
It's not in the guide because you 2gb is already fat32. 64gb can be formatted to FAT32 if you use the tool I recommend in the very start of the guide "guiformat". The guide mentions that it MUST be fat32 so there is no need to correct anything in the guide.

I have the tool... it ONLY gives me the option for exFAT.

OK I plugged it in THREE times and the program FINALLY gave me the fat32 option

OK so I did as instructed and finished the full backup but when I try to launch Haxchi to install Loadiine GX2, I loads and takes me back to the wii menu... I did it the web way and both options failed to install. I reinstalled Haxchi and now I get a black screen with options... I did this You can launch HBL by holding B when you fire up HaxChi and it launched vWii... I tried booting from fw.img and it sits at the loading screen but never loads.

If you configured HaxChi to default=sysmenu then that is the correct behavior. Your system version should say 99.99.99 as a way to confirm you are now in CFW.

Try clicking and holding B to get to HBL after you click HaxChi and go back to the system menu. So do this:

1. Boot Wii U
2. Tap HaxChi
3. You should now be in CFW mode. Check system version. It should say 99.99.99
4. Tap HaxChi again, this time while holding B
5. This should launch HBL if you followed the guide

Just to make sure it's well understood, if you try to load the file fw.img, also known as iosuhax, it must be stored on your SD card first. It won't magically load if it's not there. Haxchi can do CFW by itself, so no need for fw.img. I wonder why it's still an option in the haxchi config file?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
