Hacking Upgrading sdcard / transferring

Hey guys,

Upgrading sdcard / transferring emunand

On latest luma3ds /gm9 with a region changed emunand. Running out of space on my 32g sdcard and just got a new 64g one.

Will be transferring over to the new sdcard, please advice if the following steps are correct?

Via gm9,
Dump sysnand.
Dump emunand.

Copy/backup all dumps, files and directories of old sdcard to pc.

Format new 64g sdcard with guiformat on pc.

Then format with gm9 to create emunand partition.

Copy emunand backup to new sdcard.

Boot gm9 then restore emunand.

Copy all files and directories from old sdcard to new.

Profit?

Did I miss anything?

Edit : while the above steps do work, it's convoluted.

Mmm thanks but that's just a straightforward transfer and need to move emunand over.

As far as I know, you still only need to do that and nothing else. It's not like EmuNAND is locked on your SD card or anything, all you need is to have the correct files in the correct directories.:/

I've looked thru the steps in that guide you linked but don't see that it creates a partition for the emunand.

Wrong, EmuNAND is a separate partition on your SD card, outside of the normal FAT32 file system.

Looks fine to me, OP, though you shouldn't need to use guiformat since you are already formatting the card in GodMode9.

Edit: Though it may be worth looking into this for backing up your EmuNAND and formatting/restoring that EmuNAND to a new card. GodMode9 is great but doing it on PC is a faster process.

Ah! Thanks. It's a 64g sdcard, gm9 will format that correctly while making the emunand partition? Good to know, thought I needed guiformat for anything more than 32g.

You generally do if you're formatting on PC, but formatting the card for EmuNAND already has to remake the FAT32 partition as well. GodMode9 is perfectly capable at formatting a card to FAT32.

Thanks for the pointer! Yes that program makes it easy. Using my PC, seems I just need to backup all the data from the FAT partition of my old 32g sdcard, extract its emuNAND, swap to my new 64g card, format the emunand, then inject the previously extracted emuNAND dump, and finally, copy the backup data to the new FAT partition of my new 64g sdcard.
