So, a potential switch SD rom loader tool for the switch should not be allowed to downloaded by the public at all, we need to add this to switch hacking rules.

lol, it is ok for other people to have a different opinion to you, ya' know?

That isn't what I said, a Rom Loader is very different from Piracy, if you think 80% of people won't use an exploit for Piracy, and Piracy alone, you're naive.

The Switch doesn't need that. Though I'm not totally against your opinion, figures still lean more towards

DS - piracy through flashcarts - did fine
PSP - piracy through custom firmwares - did fine
3DS - piracy through flashcarts and custom firmwares - did TOTALLY fine

The Wii U is just an example of what actually kills off a console. It was already dead when piracy came up. Publishers and developers just found another way to abandon it. And if piracy had hit it before, that would just be another excuse to not develop for a console on which the available hardware resources are very limited.

I don't dispute those devices had healthy lives, Sales wise, despite being ridden with Piracy, but the gaming world is very different now, money is made in games as a service, I'm sure you've seen the coverage in various mediums recently. Games are costing more to make, so ruthless publishers want (expect) a huge RoI, hence all the micro transactions appearing in full price games. Piracy doesn't help all this bullshit, so the longer Switch can stay free of it the better. Especially with the all the good will it has heading into the Holiday season. I want SP games to continue, with no value add transactions attached to them. EA/Activision/the like can go fornicate themselves.

It's just my opinion, no way does it make it the right one, you can decide that for yourself.

I strongly believe piracy helps sales of good software, and merely doesn't affect sales of bad software. Nothing to back it up with, just seems logical to me.

I do, however, think that if it happens too early then it could be a disaster. Within the first year is definitely too early.

The switch is one of those consoles like the wii and ds was.. even if there is piracy .. this thing is killing it right now. So far it has been saling out everywhere .. this thing has hype and it’s a great device .. and like I said even with piracy.. it will be like always .. in the low - 10 % of who will actually pirate games. Even if 90% of everyone on this forum would pirate .. its a small community compared to everyone owning a switch. This device is Nintendo’s big debuted after wii. It will do gangbusters .

Heck I already bought 15 games for it. I bought Mario Odyssey day one and I will be getting Doom day one as well. It’s always important to remember, don’t worry about what other people do, do your thing and if you like this device and love the games on it, buy them if you can because you will be supporting the developers hard work they put into all these great games. That’s been my life lesson in videos games and the ability to pirate.

Sure I was pirating, but I was becoming a hoarder and not really playing the games, only liked getting as many as I could. I have a family now .. kids .. a pretty good job etc. sooner or later life hits you.. and you reflect on a lot of things in the passed.. anyways hope this helps someone.

I can see why Piracy would actually improve sales, not sure it's 1:1 like the Publishers keep spouting (every Pirated copy, is a lost sale; is total bullshit).

Completely agree on the year 1 comment.

that's essentially wrong, its simply a self made pcb that reads and copys the rom's content.

Oh so they are not decrypted? (Nope havnt downloaded them, piracy is bad mkey?). So BigBlueBox is just another kids group without real skill..... :rofl2: not a big deal after all

They ripped the encrypted ROM and extracted the "common" data from them (the main game file).

Nope, it was dumped through the Switch via SW hax, Switch cart crypto is currently unknown.

That's wrong on several levels. If they just "ripped" the encrypted ROM, they couldn't just extract assets from it without decryption, further confirming it was done with Switch SW hacking, since the console decrypts cart content on the fly. Moreover, assuming you meant the game executable by "the main game file", how do you think they could access various game assets, such as models and sprites which reside in the IStorage?

As said in another thread, this isn't good news at all, Switch needs a clear few years of no Piracy and solid unit sales to ensure Nintendo remain healthly, Wii U was a shambles, as evidenced by their profits. But, we need Switch to be a success so it keeps Nintendo in the game.

And in before all the haters start, I'd love homebrew to be available on Switch, but Piracy, no...

you do know that the Nintendo console with the most "piracy" was the wii and it was hacked pretty early on in it's life and it was their most successful home console to date with over 100 million units sold , and that the wii u had no "piracy" until after it's demise and it flopped
also the DS was their most most successful portable console and sold over 153 million units and it also had "piracy" since it's early days

Does anyone know if they managed to dump games with more recent firmware yet? (Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Odyssey)

Well for a start because the Switch uses e-fuses and other things learnt from the 3DS modding scene, as a result it's currently impossible to downgrade for a start (since the current exploitable FW is 3.0.0 - many will blindly update and miss this window). Then there's no front facing web browser or music player so we can't see if the exploits used on the 3DS will work here (that's most likely why Nintendo have held off on implementing them. They're really pressure testing those apps to make sure the same flaws cannot be exploited on the Switch).

Secondly the Switch has been marketed a hell of a lot better than the Wii U. Lets not forget how many consumers thought the Wii U was just an accessory for the Wii, so didn't buy it. Thankfully the Switch has much better marketing behind it and that's shown by very strong sales. This will only continue.

There's also the fact the 3DS is nearing it's end of life regarding most games (such as Pokemon where the devs have said in an interview, how they wanted to push Sun/Moon to the 3DS's limit but ended up being able to eek out a tiny bit more (which became ultra sun/moon) but there's going to be no more pokemon games like it on the 3DS). That means the Switch is the next contender on the plate for such games (which makes sense since it's both portable AND a home console). This will drive more sales for the Switch when usually 3DS exclusive games start appearing on the Switch (Pokemon, Animal Crossing etc).

I don't see piracy making much of a dent on the Switch. It's started strong out the gate and is only going to keep running, just like the Wii. With the lack of easy downgrades as well, we won't be seeing piracy for a while anyway probably not even homebrew either as it's still early days regarding SDKs and reverse engineering.

All 20 publicly dumped games are coming in at under 75 gb as space on the disk. Again this looks good for micro sd storage or flash cart or whatever mechanism they come up with in the future.

I strongly believe piracy helps sales of good software, and merely doesn't affect sales of bad software. Nothing to back it up with, just seems logical to me.

I do, however, think that if it happens too early then it could be a disaster. Within the first year is definitely too early.

A report published by the EU trade commission failed to find any evidence that piracy affects sales either positively or negatively. It would appear from their (some-what-small, still under peer-review) study that spending money on anti-piracy systems is a huge waste.
