If they are ROMs with region check, yes.

They made those 21 NTSC ROMs that are included work with a EU SNES because they are faster than PAL ROMs and the PAL/NTSC issue of TVs doesn't exist anymore. They could have included the PAL ROMs instead, but then people from Europe would cry because they get slower versions of their games. The region checks were made more than two decades ago. They didn't add anything new.

If it's a cartridge with region check, yes.

What I mean is I'm even more confused why they bothered to make a separate EU based 'system" (for 'detecting 'Pal") for the MINI when its not actually using any "Pal/region" based games. Why not simply use the same "Canoe" for every region (cosmetic art for the menus and choice of specific roms aside)?

As far as I know NES Mini is the same in both Europe and US models? They didn't create two separate emulators just to emulate the "PAL" NES vs NTSC NES.

So why did they go out of their way to create specific "Pal" emulation in the European Mini? and just go and use the NTSC mini emulator instead?

I mean besides 'cosmetic' differences, like menu appearances (which has nothing to do with emulation)...

What was the point of emulating a EU Pal system when it doesn't even used those features, and as you said modern tvs, it doesn't even matter anymore?

Authenticity?

Well than they should try to include the one from the 1.54 version.
Snes9x 1.54
- Changed the S-SMP core module to one written by byuu. (byuu, BearOso)
This has the effect of increased accuracy, fewer
speed hacks, but also regresses a few speed-hack games.

In general, if you look for a perfect emulator than somebody needs to make one.
It is is one thing to take an older version of Snes9x because of speed and just compile it.
This works to some extend but leaves all the problems of the old version intact.
Maybe it is true that an newer version like the 1.54.1 is a bit much for the SNESMC but certain bugfixes and several new features propably could still be included into a SNESMC specific version.
The SFX emulation on the 2010 version of Snes9X for example is buggy.

Why would they switch to Byuu's core? That's even more CPU intensive than Blarggs. This would perform even worse than Snes9x 2010 without the speed hacks and increased accuracy. Blargg's core is way faster, Byuu's wouldn't be.

No idea. Maybe the US SNES Mini was made by Nintendo of America and the EU SNES Mini was made by Nintendo of Europe and both companies used source code of their own region SNES to build Canoe?

Just updated to the recent version of hakchi2 for my SNES classic, when flashing the custom kernel, im getting "Kernel Dumped but the md5 checksum is unkown: (bunch of characters), do you want to proceed?
Do I hit Yes or No here?

I got the same error yesterday with 2.21b and then later it kept saying I had an outdated kernel and wanted me to flash the custom kernel again. It never did work right so I'm back on 2.20 and working fine.

just did the same thing, all is well now....weird

Hey guys. I've been lurking on here since picking up my SNES Mini. Just used Hakchi v2.21b to install approximately 50 games. No problems so far.

Questions...
  1. Can we replace the box art for the pre-installed games? Earthbound is driving me nuts since it is larger than all other box art.
  2. Can we update the names for the pre-installed games? I'd like to fix the CONTRA III in all caps to match the other games.
  3. Are the stock games compressed? I see I can compress games with Hakchi, but was wondering if that is there to maximize the numbers of games one could fit on the SNES Mini.
  4. Is there a way to stop the CLASSIC DEMO mode from selecting my added games? It currently doesn't work properly when Mario jumps up and touches them. After it fails to load, he runs to the next random game until it works.

TIA!

I recall seeing a tutorial video about custom retroarch folders in here a few days back. Do I have to dig through all pages to find it or is someone kind enough to provide me the link for it?

Edit: Nevermind, found it.

About 1) and 2): Afaik the pre-installed games are on a read-only partition, so you can't make changes to them per se. But there is a workaround for that. You can hide the pre-installed games and manually add the games to the writable partition.

I'd recommend unloading the stock games and manually loading them as Roms. I've got 206 games loaded using 216.1 MB of space and that's including the stock games (as roms), compressed, with box art.

1 yes when you have acces to the nand
2 look to point 1
3 the are uncompressed and with the hakchi 2.21b the are in a nand section where you dont put games on.
they are not neccesary for the free space now
4 look in setting of the mini snes and there you can dissable classic demo

they take the ntsc version because it has higher frame as the pal version.
and what so difficult to convert games and play them?
the made by nintendo america and made by nintendo of europe is not important because all of it are build in china and thats what on the device are printed.
and why to make the produktion complexer with more various versions?

That's correct.

Are you able to screenshot the error? and can you screenshot the folder where your hakchi program is please.

The hakchi is open in the background.

Can i add only pal roms or is better or ntsc roms and what ´s the max number of roms without issues?
What difference is there between retroarch, snes9EX+ and stock emulator and better compatibilty with games?

i'm unfamiliar with snes/nes mini modding, is it safe to say stuff like star ocean will always spit out the c7 error?

for the 100 times now!
the mini snes is a ntsc console and because that you need to convert pal games to ntsc!
the europe version is the same lie us version only with a other shell and a other look in the system design!

maximum withoud problems are 60games withou folders!
with folders more!

that could you read also in the last pages.

retroarch is emulator but need cores lie the snes9x core to emulate with a other engine.

the most games are compatible with the standard emulator but there are games that need a beter like the retroarch.

I read about a lot of mistakes for example with Terranigma and Ilusion of Time (Ilusion of gaia) what that working fine in retroarch but not with the console emulator or maybe the problem was that are pal roms
