So as I was moving some backed up games I have on my PC my SD card just up and stops working and demands I reformat it. I am being told that I am bricked because it has all of my stuff needed to boot? is this true?

There's no stuff on the SD that's needed to boot, CBHC can work without a SD card at all AFAIK. But to boot HBL you need the .elf in the right location on SD.
You might be able to recover the data on it with a partition recovery tool such as Recuva (free) or GetDataBack (paid, but seems to work better for me), that way you won't lose your data, but don't format the drive or do anything else to it cause that will lower the chances of recovering your data.

CBHC is installed to the NAND, not the SD. It can boot just fine without your SD card.

Perhaps you should test it out before asking the question.
Sorry I just am afraid to make any mistakes... I just booted it and it seems to be loading just fine... so what do I need to do to get the SD card back in order?

Edit:When I asked what happens if I lose/break the SD card on the Discord I got some people saying I was screwed so that is where part of this comes from... wasn't sure what was needed to boot...

Trying to recover data on a corrupted SD card is not recommended in this situation, as the files on your SD card are meant to work together. In other words, recovering some but missing others will likely cause problems.

According to some others on discord I just need to remake the SD card. I will deal with it tomorrow at this point. Thanks for the help.

Yes, you just need to redownload the files you want on your SD card.

Seeing that your SD acted up and seems to be corrupted, I advice that you try to test your SD card reader (the one you're using to move files to your PC), maybe it's faulty and your SD is actually healthy. Or that you test the same SD card with another reader.
I "recovered" lot's of SD cards that had problems when I changed to a branded USB 3.0 Card reader from amazon. My older chinese SDXC readers had lots of problems, specially overheating.

Yeah, only the alternate CBHC options need an SD Card. (Those alternates being booting Mocha or the Homebrew Launcher .elf)
You don't need an SD Card to go to vWii or use the built-in CBHC sigpatcher + region free + FTPiiUEverywhere option. (Although I'm in the minority for preferring Mocha, mostly due to the principle of least privilege - or to put it simply, I prefer not to have FTTPiiUEverywhere on unless I'm actively using it)
