ROM Hack Updating my 3DS - Current Version: 11.3.0-36E

I grabbed out my Old 3DS XL. He has a CFW with Luma3DS. A few month ago there was a big discussion about the banwave. How save it this currently?
Can I upgrade the 3DS? And should I only upgrade the CFW Luma3DS or can I upgrade the Nintendo Version to 11.6.0?

If I update the Luma3DS CFW do I only need to only put the files to the SD card?

i dont suggest updating but if you want to as long as you have boot9strap and luma cfw you can just update the system in system settings

If you weren't banned in the banwave, then you should be fine. It seems the banwave only lasted a week, with a few delayed bans popping up here and there. Before upgrading, I always suggest updating your CFW to the latest version. So I suggest making sure you are on the latest version (or at least on 1.2) of B9S and updating to Luma3DS 8.1.1 before updating your system.
Updating to the latest Luma3DS is always drag n' drop. Unless you are updating from Luma3DS 7.0 or below, that will require some additional steps depending on what you are running.

I dont need the newest nintendo firmware. If I can play all games with 11.3.0. its fine for me.

You won't need a hardmod or anything crazy like that. You just need a few files, which are all provided on The Guide. Upgrading to B9S is painless and there's not chance of bricking.

There's really nothing to fear about 11.6. 11.6 has kept the same FIRM as 11.4, which means everything that works with 11.4 will work with 11.6.

Honestly, when you have B9S and the latest Luma, there are no downsides to updating your firmware. You can (and should) keep a NAND backup, though, in case you ever want to get back to any particular firmware.

If you're using B9S and Luma3DS, there is no reason not to update to 11.6.

There's really nothing to fear about 11.6. 11.6 has kept the same FIRM as 11.4, which means everything that works with 11.4 will work with 11.6.

If you want to stay on 11.3, that's fine. Some games might require a newer system version, and online play will require a newer system version.

When you installed CFW, you installed B9S to the system. Luma3DS makes it so B9S can't be overwritten, so updating your system can never remove CFW. In theory, it should always be safe to update a system with B9S and Luma3DS installed. However, it's always a good idea to check GBATemp before updating, just in case. Currently, 11.6 is perfectly safe if one already has B9S and Luma3DS installed, and that's unlikely to ever change with newer system versions.

If a 3DS doesn't have CFW installed and it's on 11.4-11.6, then installing CFW will require one of the following methods:

1. ntrboot method
2. DSiWare method
3. Hardmod method

The ntrboot method is super easy to use, but it requires a $20 DS flashcart that one might not already have.

It doesn't matter what OFW you installed your CFW on, you can safely update to the latest due to the CFW having protective measures to prevent it from being removed through OFW updates. You really don't even need hardmod anymore, we have a new method to installing B9S through an exploit called "NTRBoot." The Guide does a better job explaining how how it works and how to set it up, but basically it's a bootrom method than can't be blocked. So even if under the extremely unlikely chance something happened, you can just use one of the compatible flashcarts to trigger the bootrom exploit, and fix it/reinstalled B9S.
Although once you've gotten B9S installed and Luma3DS updated, it's perfectly fine to update to the latest OFW through the system settings. It should always be fine to update, but I always suggest checking the forums to make sure the Big N didn't accidentally break anything again.

i'd suggest against updating because if you update NTR CFW's brightness feature gets patched, so if you use that all the time dont update

Exactly. If you buy a new 3DS on 11.6, then you need a hardmod, DSiWare or NTRBoot. Your current 3DS is hacked forever, as long as you don't screw up the updating process.

Basically:

1. Check if your entrypoint is up to date (currently B9S 1.3)
2. Check if your Luma is up to date (currently v8.1.1)
3. Update your system firmware to the latest version (currently Ver. 11.6.0-39X - X being E/U/J/K... depending on your region)

On my Luma settings I have "Autoboot SysNAND". Is this correct? Should I use SysNAND or EmuNAND. Because a backup I can do without use EmuNAND or? In my eyes there is no reason for me to use the EmuNAND or am I wrong?

So I updated Luma to 8.1.1 and the Nintendo Firmware to 11.6 and all seems ok. But now I have a fully SD card with stuff ... Have to clear it a bit
