Hacking How can I check if I have a MCU brick?

I've bought a bricked new 3ds xl for cheap, IDK if I can unbrick it as I don't have a b9s compatible flashcart yet, and I don't want to waste my money if it won't unbrick my console. Can I check what type of brick it is?

Try arm9loaderhax.bin from Luma 7.0.5 and boot.firm from Luma 7.1 and 8.1.1. It doesn't sound like it is even bricked, just missing the file needed to boot.

I've tried this but it doesn't work. Anyway I remembered badly, it doesn't shut down automatically, and it seems like it doesn't do the screen init at all.

Try Decrypt9.bin renamed to arm9loaderhax.bin or Decrypt9.firm renamed to boot.firm.

It has A9LH definitely cause there was already an arm9loaderhax.bin in the sd card, anyway it doesn't boot decrypt9. (Possibly an installation with a wrong otp?)
EDIT: I've found a nand backup in the sd card, and also the 2.1.0 ctrtransfer, but there is no otp.bin in the a9lh folder. Recovery mode doesn't work.

Could be hardware brick as well. If you have a ripped flat cable in there somewhere or a connector is not connected the proper way.

The first second the system checks if all hardware is connected and the shuts off if it is not. This kind of brick should have it’s hardware issue fixed and thus cannot be fixed with ntrboot.

Other option would be it is already a9lh or b9s hacked and it is just missing the boot.bin or boot.firm

If it is a hardware thing like mentioned above it should make a click noise when it shuts off, and you might get it to turn on by having the lid only slightly open.

But there's one thing I can tell you.

DO NEVER EVER ATTEMPT TO USE THE B9S or A9LH files for a NAND recovery. it will BRICK for SURE.

There is no way to brick the MCU, so therefore it can't even be a real MCU brick

Sounds like something failed. Probably with the 2.1.0 ctrtransfer, like accidentally updating. It can't be a MCU brick, because then the blue light wouldn't turn on.

So, If you install b9s w/ ntr boot, and restore the nand backup, the 3ds should work.

This sounds like he updated with recovery on 2.1. You should be able to open godmode9 (even with broken firms on the nand) and install a 9.2 ctrnandtransfer image.

Yes because there is no way to brick the MCU FW via Software tinkering.
