It was a pretty old nightly (generally use older ones for playing, load new ones over the network for testing), though it was working fine for weeks before it went bad. I still reckon it's some kind of corruption or data rot in the SD card.

Ugh, but those HBL errors, seem pretty common.

@ploggy, any luck?

Hey, one dev decided to take a stab at this but he may need to ask a few questions.
If any of you can help hop in https://discord.gg/011l9DB6qWt9B4bzO

Thanks
The mian core retroarch.rpx will crash to black screen and need a hard reset if you try to use that. They have to use one of the other cores to start. (if that is what you are asking first.)

@QuarkTheAwesome I can talk in roughly 2 minutes. And say how i got mine running. lol

What are peoples' experiences with the most recent nightly like? I could move from core to core loading ROMs, but quitting a game from the menu always hard locked the Wii U with a black screen. Any time I loaded Star Fox 2 after that time I tried to resync my Pro controller while it was running has led to a DSI error (even though it worked the first time prior having to resync) - very strange.

I followed the usual practice of replacing retroarch.rpx with a renamed core (mGBA) - now reverting to 9/27 seemed to fix everything for me for the time being.

bparker06 has just pushed a patch that should fix a crash that happened during controller initialization. Let us know of any other crashes you manage to reproduce with the latest nightly (might take a few hours before the build is on the buildbot server).
Thank You guys for looking at this I'll test it out as soon as the build is up :)

Got this messing with the appearance settings (disabling the horizontal animation)
