Well, yep. It's playable, but it's missing features. Just like the case of the NBA 2k18 situation (which let's you play, but has some features missing).

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/5gb-uncharted-4-day-one-patch-required-for-key-fea/1100-6439288/

Uncharted 4, for example, needed its day one patch for unlocking: Photo Mode, Weapon Selector, Encounter Select, and some more.

Edit: This is the full list of features Uncharted 4 unlocked with the day one patch.

Version 1.01 Patch
  • Multiplayer support
  • Single player Encounter Select
  • Bonus Feature: Photo Mode
  • Bonus Feature: Character Model Viewer
  • Bonus Feature: Render Modes
  • Bonus Feature: Gameplay Modes
  • Bonus Feature: Single-player Modes
  • Bonus Feature: Weapon Selector
  • Bonus Feature: Journal Viewer
  • Bonus Feature: Concept Art Galleries
  • General Fixes and Improvements

So, we won't be able to play multiplayer in 20 years if we delete the data! What a shame!
it has features missing . IT DOESN'T HAVE STORY FEATURES OR GAMEPLAY FEATURES MISSING. It can still be played in 20 years time offline so that argument is still INVALID. Jezus Christ, wish the servers were still online so i could take pictures or see some concept art !!!!!

MULTIPLAYER SUPPORT.

Read the first line. I take it as a very important feature, but if you don't care about it, okay.

Also "
  • Single player Encounter Select

    "
This is what gives Uncharted 4 replay value. Guess you wouldn't want to actually enjoy the game as you should.

EDIT: Also, this is only one example. If you want a full list, give me a week and I'll post at least 20 PS/Xbox games that have day one patches with important features.

Digital is the future. We won't live forever, so it doesn't matter if we get to replay the game in 100 years. In 20 or 40 years, I'm pretty sure companies will still be around and let their servers okay for redownloading stuff.

Wii is 11 years old, and I can still re-download my WiiWare games from its servers.

still a full game on disc switch games will be only having 50 percent story gameplay on cartridge ? You done going on your knees for Nintendo ?

200GB mSD is $85, not that bad. Besides, you're really over-estimating how much you need to download when buying a retail cart anyway. Most will just have day-one patches like I mentioned, 1GB or less. Game servers tend to get discontinued, but eShop/update servers tend to stick around for several generations.

Yeah, full fat HDDs are cheaper for mass storage, but Nintendo couldn't have used those for obvious reasons. Even an SSD would be too big to fit in with Switch's internals.
Yeah, you still dont get it. No one is talking about aditional patches, we are talking about HALF OF THE GAME CONTENRS MISSING FROM THE BASE GAME. No one is talking about digital downloads, no one is talking about the internal storage, the problem here is the fact that SWITCH GAMES ON CARTRIDGES WILL HAVE CUT CONTENT THAT SHOULD BE ALREADY ON THE BASE GAME. Thebase 2k game will come with its full features on the other consoles, but what about the switch? pfft.

Also, i never saw a 3ds game (other than maybe mh) that didnt let you play the full game without a sd card. Almost every cartridge game can be played instantly without an external storage. You can even play smash without an sd, the only downside is the fact you cant save your progress, but other than that, the full game is still playable.

You are still missing the point of the thread. There is no day one patches, there is no day dlc with aditional content. Some of the base features that should come with the base game will be missing, understand now?

Now, what's the porpuse of cartridges if the full game wont be on it in the first place? If nintendo saw the cartridges are too expensive to develop for, they should have the switch a full digital console, this way avoiding this problem from the start.

Who said 50% of games?

They say "a portion of the game", also in the IGN article. Where are everyone getting the "50% of the game in cartridge"?

Is everyone from the future and already know that NBA 2k18 will lack half the career or whatever gameplay modes it has?

Life is ephemeral, and that is part of its beauty.
Game cards, consoles and online services also. Enjoy them while they last, they are not meant to last forever.
Sure video game museums will find ways to store old games for appreciation of future old game history researchers.
Meanwhile, commoners shall enjoy things while they last, and even better go full digital, that will help you avoid this problem that "cards don't contain the whole game".

Probably there should be a "/s" somewhere along this post... but to be honest, I don't think this matters enough, it is just being blown out of proportions IMHO.

Digital is the future. No matter what gaming console you look at. PC was first with Steam. Do you see everyone worried by not being able to play their games when Steam dissapears? Just play, and don't think if you'll be able to play X game in 50 years. Play it now.

Literally if you want to avoid this, go to another dimension where the only gameing console is Nintendo Entertainment System 10, and everyone plays only Duck Hunt and Donkey Kong remasters; or go back in time.

Xbox One and PS4 are in a similar situation, if not worse than this. Sure, they don't require external storage, but you MUST install the whole game before you can play it, and while you wait, well you get to look at the menus at least.
Wrong. With ps4 you can play certain parts of certain games before the whole game downloads

The feeling to play a game that has been with me since 2008-2009 is something I wish I could recreate in the future, those pokemon that I've caught still have the date I met them, I enjoy every time i see is working because I know it might fail tomorrow or some day, I still have the mario world that I used to play with my dad when I was 6, with digital I cannot have that feeling and I know I the future all those things could be digital

Nobody is going to do this with the possible exception of EA, so it's pointless to talk about.

Flash memory in DS original cards will remain for some more time than GBA cards, yes. But they will stop working. Maybe in 50 years, maybe in 100 years. It doesn't matter. They won't be there forever.

I might be dead in 50 years, it won't matter for me then

Why are all saying Nintendo is forcing them. If I had to guess its all down to the 3rd parties who want to save a few bucks by using lower capacity cards and requiring the other stuff to be downloaded from them.

We pay extra for Switch games because the carts are expensive. We should at least be able to expect the whole game to be on the cart.
You didn't pay extra, you pay the same 60$ like any other Switch game no matter their size. If the game ever slightly go pass that everyone will scream overprice. Do you have any idea how expensive those cart is? expressly that Nintendo is the one who monopoly those cart.

That's what he meant. If we are paying $60 for a cartridge, we expect the whole game to be there ready to plug on the switch and play, not to download the rest or missing features for a game that eadsily could be bigger than 10gb and the wait time would just depend on your internet connection.

It's pure bullcrap.

We don't even know the amount of data that will need to be downloaded yet. Please wait until it's out to actually talk this way about it.

Why do you expect this of a cartridge and not a disc, though? And why complain about it now, not ten years ago when it first started happening? Also why not be more critical of XB1 and PS4 when they do the exact same thing but are also immobile so you can't really take them to free wifi easily?

Your complaint doesn't seem to be that Nintendo chose to go with cartridges, but more that cartridges aren't just somehow a godlike form of storage media that outclasses all others. Expectations meet reality, I guess.
