ROM Hack Animal Crossing New Leaf Language Change?

(I'm brand new to this website so I apologize if I'm posting this under the wrong forum)
I have a copy of ACNL, in Japanese, [along with a Japanese 3DS to play it], and I'm wondering if its possible to change the language of the game through hacking. I know you can't change it by normal means, and I've checked everywhere. I have a homebrewed 3DS, but when I try to change the language of the game using HANS, it just completely deletes the save file & the language is still in Japanese. I've watched a YouTube series where somebody changes the text of the game, so I know it's possible, but my question is, how? I'm new to this whole homebrew-hack scene so it's probably something simple I'm not doing. Help is greatly appreciated!

What's your firmware, 3ds model, cfw etc?

New 3DS, version 11.5, I'm using RPwnG (I think that's the cfw I'm extremely illiterate with this stuff so I apologize)

Cfw is a custom firmware. If you don't have one, then that's fine, just limits your options. ACNL might not have multi language support. If it really doesn't, try dumping both your rom and a US rom. Then replace the text files from that rom to yours. Then repack it as a romfs and use it with Hans.

I don't believe ACNL has multi-language support, unless it does for the EU version. US and JP versions don't, at least, iirc.
