I'm just wondering how Nintendo makes outdated flashcarts not working on updated 3DSs and sometimes brick the ones that works perfectly.

Not sure. My guess is they buy one, get information, make it blocked by the card reader, and send out updates. Why did the DSTwo not get a hardware revision while the R4i got several? No clue.

I never updated it... but what is a timebomb cart?
timebomb carts are usually clone carts that just stop working after a certain time, "forcing" you to buy another one.

some of those carts can be tricked by setting the date a few years/months back

Ah. If I had one it can stopped working after my time travels in Animal Crossing New Leaf...

But how i can understand if a cart is ok or is a timebomb one? I can't buy online, and because of this I buy the flashcarts in phone shops (yes, in Italy some shops sells flashcarts). The next time I'll ask for an acekard 2.
