Quick note: I WAS going to post this in the Games & Content section, but since I got the game from USBHelper and am running it via Homebreeeeew... yeeeah.

So, the game works fine if you don't watch cutscenes all the way though. That wouldn't be a problem, if I weren't interested in them. I mean, I can only watch a bit before having to skip, so that the game doesn't crash. But again, if I bypass cutscenes, the game works as it should. Oh, and in-game ones work alright.

Though the error code is about the External Hard Drive, every other of my 40+ games work just fine. It's just this one. I even redownloaded and made sure the files are in tact, but still nothing.

I'm about to sleep, so I cant give the exact error code and message. I'd also have to redo y 30 minutes of gamplay to even reach the scene again. So, I might give an update on that later.

I'll check back on this thread after my nap.
Thanks all!

Big update: Loaded up the game and got into a mini boss fight. I got this message now: "The USB device is write-protected. Please refer to the manual for the device and disable write protection."

I'm 100% certain the HDD is not write protected. I never enabled it, and if it were, I wouldn't have even been able to get into the gameplay just now.

Is my Wii U just drunk? I was actually just intending on getting the ORIGINAL error code for you all to see. Now this happens. Just, Jeez.

Final info update, I swear:
Alright, so I powered through the level and reached the scene again, and it crashed again. I even tried using the front USB slots rather than the back ones.
Here is the message:

There is a problem with your USB storage device. Please contact the manufacturer of the device. Check the device's manual for contact information. Error Code: 160-01-105
(1) 5.5.1 (2) WUP-101(02) (3) FW710019835 (4) AQU0-0223-3175

...we had stuff to do? Maybe you might want to try a different Y-cable? You'll know if the game is going to mess up if the audio skips during gameplay.

Tried, and it still messes up. no audio skipping. just instant error.
Your game might be corrupted? If you have space, put it on your internal storage, using a fresh install. If you think the save isn't corrupted, remember to transfer the save file before you re-install the game to internal.

Sounds like your HDD is going into sleep mode have you disabled sleep mode in settings if not do it and that should fix your various issues. To disable sleep mode do this

  1. Turn on your Wii U
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Go to Data Management
  4. Press and hold down on the D-Pad for about half a second
  5. While holding down on the D-Pad, press and hold the + and - buttons and keep them pressed down until you see a prompt referring to the HDD sleep mode
  6. Select disable

Thanks so much for the response.
Yes, I've done this a few days ago, for when I'd load up my CFW and the games would be missing. Also because of my Bayonetta issue. But sadly, it doesn't work, and the same thing happens. My games don't disappear anymore though.
Now that I've thought about it, I'm starting to feel like the guy I bought my console from, just really ripped me off.

"first of all, it was advertised that the console came with splatoon and Nintendo land
which it did. but I'm forced to delete them if I want to use my Nintendo account, so I had no choice.
then the seller said that it's in perfect condition. It had scuff marks all over, and the sensor bare socket doesn't work at all. so I wasted 50 bucks on trying to find one that'd work.
now I'm finding out that the usb ports might be bad, because anytime I try playing bayonetta or saving a course in Mario maker I get an external hard drive error, though every other game works just fine."

Just use a powered USB case. Had the same problem with multiple Y cables and used a powered case and the problem vanished
