What kind should I use? I'm about to install my first mm3 in an original ps1. Thanks in advance

What's the best technique? Put a little on the motherboard and the wire then solder them together

for wires, you melt some solder in one of the wires, if the wire gets "shiny" it means it's good... if the solder doesnt' stick, the iron is not hot enough...
then do the same in the other wire, stick them togheter and they will "stick togheter"
as for boards i don't know.. i just got a very small lesson from a friend who was soldering wires and i watched it

i bet there is plenty of tutorials in youtube you can watch to know what to expect and do...

If I do it that way I don't have to add any more solder wire when making the connection right?

Yup, you should be good to go. Try to make a solid connection, but don't tug too hard on the connecting point.

i kite don't remember but i think yes, you don't require any more solder, they will just stick together
 
The only way to fuck it up is holding the iron on the pad too long and this will lift the pad off the board so be careful.
